This role is right for you if you are an experienced government official, politician, political adviser, government relations or public affairs professional, or a public policy expert.

The Difference You Will Make:

You will be responsible for working collaboratively with Government (both central and municipal) and industry stakeholders to develop and implement fair and sustainable regulations for oversight of the short-term rental accommodation sector. You will also be responsible for working collaboratively with various internal teams to provide key updates and advice on various regulatory and political matters, in addition to driving program implementation and supporting critical projects. 

Not only to revitalize the short term rental accommodation sector industry, but also to work with our colleagues to address Japan's many social issues, such as population decline, aging society, labor shortage, promotion of tourism, regional economic development, and realizing a society where all people are inclusive and can play an active role. A Typical Day: 

  • As part of the Airbnb public policy team, responsible for lobbying the central and local government.
  • Take individual responsibility for multiple advocacy activities and control reputational expectations for Airbnb's policy stakeholders.
  • Be familiar with compliance in Airbnb's business environment and work with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a high standard of compliance systems to ensure the success of the business team.
  • Responsible for establishing partnerships with local authorities and DMOs and their activities.
  • Work with teams in Airbnb's APAC region and US headquarters to localize global public policy best practice.


Your Expertise:

  • An inflamed passion for Airbnb's mission.
  • Strong interest in the development of the short term rental market and the revitalization of the local economy.
  • A love for traveling and the ability to enjoy and handle many domestic and international business trips.
  • A minimum of 6-8 years' experience working for a government municipality or in the public policy sector. Any relevant experience would be considered.
  • Skills and experience as a high team contributor in addition to performing duties independently.
  • Good understanding of policy development, policy analysis and regulatory reform requests.
  • In addition to fluency in English at a business level, high communication skills in Japanese are essential to be trusted at a high level with politicians, senior staff and local government officials.
  • Holding a master's degree in public policy or similar is a plus.
