The Community You Will Join:
The Analytics Infrastructure Team's mission is to empower data-driven decision-making across the company through robust, scalable, and innovative analytics products. We build and maintain the libraries, frameworks, and visualization tools that enable our data scientists, analysts, and engineers to derive insights and drive impact. Our team embraces a collaborative environment where engineers, data scientists, and product specialists work together to solve complex challenges and deliver high-quality solutions.
We manage products like Apache Superset (BI tool currently used by over 2500 weekly active users), Airbnb’s in-house build Metric system which enables metric consistency at scale, and the Experimentation platform, which enables safe product launches and deep insights into product features.
The Difference You Will Make:
As an Engineering Manager on the Metrics Infrastructure team, you will be responsible for shaping the vision, technical strategy / roadmap and for delivering a next generation metrics and semantic querying platform that scales with our business. You will lead the team towards unlocking new capabilities essential to Airbnb’s future strategy. Some example problems the team is working on:
- Extending our framework for semantically modeling data to enable simplified discovery and querying, while ensuring accuracy and performance.
- Automatically generating materialized views of data based on query history, performance and cost.
- Improving developer workflows to enable rapid prototyping and graduation of new metrics and dimensions.
A Typical Day:
- Support the team in delivering a framework which ensures reliability, efficiency and correctness at scale, while making it for producers and consumers to use.
- Retain, grow and hire a team of high-performing engineers. Manage and mentor a team of engineers and be the guardian of our architecture.
- Be conversant in systems design/architecture, can reason about trade-offs, and ultimately own & defend technical decisions / technical direction for your team
- Work across the organization, partnering with both upstream dependencies (e.g. data infrastructure), and customers.
- Empower the team to achieve a high level of productivity, reliability and simplicity.
- Stays current on leading industry trends and participates in defining the company’s engineering culture.
Your Expertise:
- 5+ years of managing teams of software engineers, with 10+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast paced tech environment. You should have direct experience as an engineer working at a staff+ level.
- BS, MS or PhD in CS or related field
- Experience with data infrastructure (storage, processing, orchestration) and/or data-driven application development.
- Experience with modern software development practices
- Experience with data modeling, database design, and SQL semantics is a huge plus.
- Technical leadership: hands on experience leading highly technical and senior teams and setting technical direction and strategy.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills. Able to work across teams and organizations on technical initiatives.
- Able to retain, mentor, grow and hire senior and staff engineers
- Able to contribute to culture choices and initiatives that positively impact all of engineering

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
