The Difference You will Make:

The Senior General Manager will be the most senior executive responsible for managing Airbnb’s Spanish domiciled insurance business and will have ultimate executive responsibility for its operations, compliance and performance. This role (i) reports to the Global Insurance Solutions team and (ii) will require fit & proper approval by the Spanish Directorate General for Insurance and Pension Funds (“DGSFP”).

This role is based remote within Spain.

A Typical Day: 

  • Leading the development and execution of Airbnb’s Spanish insurance agency (the “Company”) strategy in partnership with the global Insurance Solutions team and internal cross-functional partners, with overall responsibility for Airbnb’s insurance distribution activities through the Spanish insurance business in the European market.
  • Holding primary responsibility for overseeing the development and maintenance of relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the agency’s interactions with the DGSFP, insurers and other business partners.
  • Establishing and monitoring agency OKRs and leading monthly and quarterly business reviews.
  • Working effectively and collaboratively with regional support and enabling teams who will ensure the Company's success and whose actions and behaviors reflect Airbnb’s core values. 
  • Providing oversight of key functions within the Company and ensuring they produce the desired results and deliver consistent with the overall strategy and purpose of the Company. 
  • Developing and maintaining sound management of the Company, including but not limited to risk management, oversight over all regional insurance compliance, working closely with the Head of European Agency Risk & Compliance, verifying and maintaining business strategy and ensure that all activities and obligations are carried out in full compliance with overall group policies and standards.
  • Acting as a thought leader for the Company and representing it at global external and internal events. 

Your Expertise:

  • At least 12 years working experience in the general business of insurance industry, of which 7 years should be in a managerial position in a recognizable company pertaining to the insurance sector. Experience with lines of business related to personal or affinity insurances would be particularly appreciated. 
  • Compliance with relevant fit and proper requirements pursuant to Spanish law. 
  • At least Level 3 (or equivalent) mandatory initial training pursuant to Spanish law. 
  • Fluent Spanish and English. Additional languages are a significant advantage.
  • Substantive knowledge of insurance products and the insurance market, with demonstrated expertise in insurance company operations or insurance brokerage or agency management.
  • Substantive knowledge of the functioning of new technologies and digital platforms in the context of insurance distribution.
  • Ideally, management / key influencing experience, including experience in managing remotely. 
  • Flexibility and willingness to work with all levels of the organization, and to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
  • Intellectually curious, open-minded, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity and risk, and excited by dynamic change and solving problems.
  • Experience creating and managing risk and compliance processes.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously while prioritizing competing tasks in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Ability to understand technology-driven businesses, communicate concisely, and influence effectively across a wide audience including regulators, Airbnb leadership, finance and product teams, and members of the legal team.
