We are the Jewish community's largest and fastest growing pluralistic platform for reaching and inspiring Jewish teens during the schoolyear with 725 teen-led local chapters and over 100 weekend retreats along with a plethora of summer experiences including Israel visits, global travel programs, and leadership camps. We work as a strong and inclusive team and every day is different by design. We are fast-paced, high energy and results driven.

About Greater Jersey Region:

GJR is proud to be the home of nearly 30 chapters and over 1500 teens in BBYO serving New Jersey from Bergen County to the Jersey Shore. We welcome any and all Jewish teens looking to partake in meaningful Jewish experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service with their friends. 

We are a strong veteran team of alumni, educators, event planners and life-long learners looking for the right person to round out our team and be a relevant resource to our chapters.

Time Commitment: 5-15 hours a week (will vary), some nights and weekends required.

Pay: $15.50-$18.00 per hour

When: December 2024- May 2025

What you will do as a BBYO chapter specialist

As an integral part of our team, you will work closely with chapters nationwide to enhance their programming, engagement, and overall impact. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, cultivate relationships with diverse communities, and contribute to the growth and success of BBYO chapters.

  • Work directly with teens (grades 8-12) to create impactful, fun, and dynamic programming.
  • Coach teens on how to run their chapters.
  • Be present at chapter events and meetings.
  • Support teens in building out chapter calendars. 
  • Create high quality programs with the teens.
  • Keep chapters up to date on movement initiatives.
  • Work with teens to attract and retain members to build and grow chapters.
  • Oversee Chapter attendance data, including Chapter event registration forms.
  • Work alongside colleagues to bring new, innovative, and fun ideas to the community.
  • Facilitate effective communication amongst chapters and with parents or other relevant community members.
  • Meet monthly with a cohort of other chapter specialists.
  • Other duties as assigned.

As a BBYO Chapter Specialist, you will develop:

  • Leadership Development: Take charge of meetings and events, refining your ability to guide and inspire peers toward shared goals.
  • Event Management: Work with teens to plan and execute engaging programs, enhancing your organizational and logistical skills while creating memorable experiences.
  • Effective Communication: Hone your interpersonal skills by interacting with members, advisors, and collaborators, fostering strong relationships within the community.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Work closely with fellow chapter specialists and advisors to achieve collective objectives
  • Problem-Solving Acumen: Navigate challenges creatively as you identify solutions during event planning and chapter activities, boosting your critical thinking and adaptability.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 3 years removed from high school.
  • Role has in-person responsibilities. Candidate must live within or close to region.
  • The number of hours worked per week is flexible, but at minimum 5 hours per week.  
  • A creative and responsible self-starter who is comfortable with both taking initiative and working in collaboration with teens.
  • A background in BBYO or similar youth/Jewish organization is preferred but not required.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Transport self to and from chapter or regional events.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. without holding a visa or sponsorship.
