We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Compliance Sanctions Controls Effectiveness Testing Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of our sanctions screening controls, ensuring compliance with global regulatory requirements, and identifying areas for improvement. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance our sanctions compliance program and mitigate risks associated with sanctions violations. You will also be the go-to expert within the team to guide and train the team of analysts. 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular reviews and testing of sanctions screening systems, processes, and controls to ensure effectiveness and compliance with applicable regulations [e.g. OFAC, EU, UN, and other global sanctions regimes]
  • Identify and document control weaknesses, gaps, and areas for improvement
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Prepare detailed reports on control effectiveness, testing results, and recommendations for senior management and regulatory bodies as required
  • Stay informed of changes in global sanctions regulations and assess their impact on the business
  • Support the team’s SME in preparing regulatory examinations and audits related to sanctions compliance
  • Investigate and resolve escalated sanctions-related audit findings, MLRO requests, and other incidents in a timely manner

  • Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in compliance quality assurance / internal audit, with focus on sanctions controls, preferably at a crypto/fintech company
  • Proficiency in compliance applications and programmes such as Neterium, World-Check,  Chainalysis, Elliptic, etc
  • Good knowledge of provisions of local laws, directives, regulations and other standards applicable to subject persons
  • Strong proficiency in identifying unusual activity or AML flags, conducting risk assessments, periodic/trigger reviews and enhanced due diligence
  • Proven knowledge and experience with international sanctions laws and regulations
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to write effectively
  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Fluency in English. A second language will be advantageous
