Your Job:
 
As the Manager, Lab-Footwear and Apparel, Asia you are responsible for growing the lab capabilities to meet product development and quality needs. you will possess a comprehensive technical background in footwear and apparel laboratory test equipment, testing and operations. You will be Our ideal candidate possesses a comprehensive technical background in footwear and apparel laboratory test equipment, testing and operations to work with test equipment technical experts and calibration services to trouble shoot & resolve test equipment issues. You will work cross functionally with Development, Commercialization, Manufacturing, and Factory teams determine new test methods, test equipment, deliver training, and qualify and validate materials in accordance with Brooks performance/quality standards.  You are responsible for overseeing the determination, documentation and implementation of testing protocols to support the agreed upon material standards and communicating updates to the cross-functional team and T-1 vendors. You are responsible for Brooks Laboratory Chemists, Specialists (s) and factory group laboratories across all regions for footwear & apparel. This job requires leadership, planning, prioritization, analysis, problem solving, and strong communication.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor Lab Chemists and Lab Specialists
  • Act as technical expert to the development, commercialization and manufacturing teams during the entire footwear and apparel product creation process.
  • Work closely with Brooks QA Engineers, Laboratory Chemists, Specialists, and Tier 2 Suppliers to determine audit protocols for managing and maintaining self-inspection certification status.
  • Own Brooks Footwear Lab Manual & Lab Test Method Change Request process. Propose Lab Test Method Change Requests based on evolving development and quality needs, gain team alignment, update Lab Manual documentation and communicate to Brooks and T-1 vendors.
  • Train Brooks Lab Technicians, QA Engineers and factory lab personnel in testing procedures, specs, calibration procedure and Brooks policies
  • Recommend and propose budget for new lab equipment and testing devices.
  • Engage with “internal customers” and provide on-point and complete solutions for their needs for lab testing.
  • Own lab training and materials. Ensure consistent training and technique across all regions and T1 factories.
  • Oversee and mentor Lab Chemists(s) and Lab Specialists who compile and analyze test information to determine quality of materials and components and recommend actions for improvement in accordance with Brooks quality and performance criteria.
  • Prepare and provide material performance results by supplier to support Tier 2 business reviews conducted by Quality Assurance and Sourcing
  • Provide advice/recommendation/testing support for new/innovative materials for Development department.
  • Advise factory chemical test teams in monitoring materials chemical test status, conducting random tests, and exchanging information with Brooks RSL (“Restricted Substances List”) team and other functional teams, as necessary.
  • Establish or adjust working procedures in factory lab to meet testing schedules, while remaining consistent with Brooks Lab Manual and Lab Training
  •  Advise Innovation and Materials teams on special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of materials, if necessary. Consult with QA Manager, as necessary.
  • e Own Brooks factory lab calibration procedure, update and communicate updates as needed.
  • Maintain Brooks factory partner lab test equipment matrix and calibration requirements. Resolves an gaps in test equipment equivalency.
  • Responsible for product compliance to regional test requirements and certifications including GB and BIS certification. Other responsibilities as required. 
  • Your Qualifications:

  • Degree in technical field, preferably Chemical Engineering, Textile Engineering or related Science.
  • Minimum 7 years of footwear and apparel materials related experience (especially leather, textile or polymer) and/or an equivalent combination of experience.
  • 3+ years management experience
  • Technical understand of how test equipment and calibration methods.
  • Understanding of technical and functional footwear & apparel processes. Must be fluent in international footwear test method standards. Must be able to read and understand test equipment operator’s manuals and calibration certificates.
  • Must be fluent in English (writing and speaking) and able to communicate clearly with Asia/USA teams. Ability to understand and communicate in spoken and written Chinese a plus.
  • Strong communication, organizational skills and a willingness to work in a team-oriented environment is essential.
  • Ability to coordinate and perform multiple/concurrent tasks in an accurate, efficient and timely manner.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
