The Office of the Chief Innovation Officer, CIC Tokyo is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented analyst to support our team to research and analyze innovation ecosystems, economic trends, and policy developments in emerging sectors like AI, robotics, space tech, and others. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with the Chief Innovation Officer to produce highly-analytical and impactful research that seeks to inform and shape future innovation policy trends.

SCOPE OF WORK
The analyst will support a variety of research projects, including the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data in relation to innovation and economic indicators. The objective of the research led by the Chief Innovation Officer is to track global and local innovation policies and the resulting effects to develop new strategic thinking for innovation. Research projects may encompass tracking global innovation policy trends, conducting country-level and city-level economic and network analysis, measuring the effects of innovation (i.e. employment data, GDP, investment data, and other proxy indicators), and compiling data into charts and visualizations.

A key deliverable will be the creation of a series of analytical notes, with an eventual goal of producing a quarterly innovation policy update and a comprehensive case study on the innovation ecosystem and economic impact of CIC Tokyo, and other CIC campuses.

Specific tasks include:
- Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on global innovation ecosystems, technology trends (e.g., AI, deep tech, energy, climate), and economic policies affecting city/region competitiveness. Assess and evaluate the effects of innovation generated across CIC campuses.
- Economic & Network Analysis: Perform economic analysis, including employment impact, GDP growth, and network effects related to innovation initiatives.
- Report & Policy Development: Work closely with the team to draft and edit policy reports, and insights on innovation ecosystems and regional economic performance.
- Case Study Development: Contribute to the development of a case study on the impact of CIC Tokyo, focusing on its role in fostering innovation and driving economic growth in the region.
- Data Collection & Synthesis: Collect relevant data, statistics, and trends from multiple sources, synthesizing findings into actionable insights for policy recommendations.
- Collaborative Insights: Initiate the production of a quarterly update or insight report on innovation and economic policy trends, contributing key findings and research.

SELECTION CRITERIA
We are looking for a self-driven and highly-motivated individual who is eager to learn and contribute to driving research and analysis at CIC. Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach are key to thriving in this role.

- Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, or a related field. MBA candidates are encouraged to apply. 
- Experience in research methodologies, data analysis (quantitative and qualitative), economic analysis, and impact analysis. Experience in network analysis is a plus.
- Experience working on policy research, especially in relation to entrepreneurship, technology startups, innovation, and economics is a plus.
- Awareness and understanding of technology and innovation trends, and economic indicators. Interest or background in startups, or innovation ecosystem is desirable.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Japanese, and ability to present complex and produce quality work under tight deadlines; ability to organize, edit and draft a variety of documents.
- Proactive self-starter who is able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- The candidate will be hired for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on the business needs, and potential full-time opportunities.
- This is a contractor position; the expected maximum working hours per week are 20.
