Are you a creative, energetic, and self-motivated professional? Do you have an Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics background with experience in high-speed low-noise electronics? If so, we invite you to join our Engineering department as a Senior FPGA Design Engineer.

In this rewarding position, you will be leading the FPGA design and development of the programming and readout electronics for our advanced superconducting quantum processors. 

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implementation of the next generation quantum processor control and readout system electronics based on XIlinxRFSoCs 
  • Continuous improvement of the current electronics systems  
  • Work closely with the multi-disciplinary teams in Engineering, Software and Processor Development and act as a key interface between the teams 
  • Clearly document and communicate the work and progress to the internal development teams 
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers 
  • What you’ll bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in FPGA development 
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Experimental Physics, or equivalent in relevant education and experience 
  • Extensive experience in FPGA design, preferably with Xilinx/AMD RFSoC devices 
  • Strong knowledge of high-speed serial interfaces such as DDR, PCIe and Ethernet 
  • Experience designing high-speed PCBs and performing signal integrity analysis 
  • Proficient in VHDL/Verilog 
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and programming languages such as C/C++ 
  • Excellent hands-on ability and trouble shooting skills, including circuit debugging with vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers and related tools 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment that is focused on priorities and end results 
  • Self-motivated, proactive, flexible and passionate about learning 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Bonus Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Experimental Physics 
  • Familiarity with OrCad schematic and PCB layout tools 
  • Experience in microwave circuit design including filtering, switching, multiplexing, and transmission lines 
  • Experience with microwave frequency design  
  • Experience with superconducting circuits 
  • Strong software engineering skills related to experimental design, data acquisition, and analysis 
  • Registered as a EIT or Professional Engineer in British Columbia
