THE ROLE

An Analyst role in the Structured Product Trading group is an entry into the world of trading commodity futures, options, and exotic products. The role is focused on hedging commercial client transactions. In addition to trading, the Analyst will learn principles of risk management, quantitative pricing strategies, basic computer programming, and how to service clients in the commodity trading sector. A promising analyst will receive extensive career development opportunities and be expected to soon take responsibility for oversight of our daily trade flows to reach the level of Associate Trader, and eventually display mastery of pricing and risk management theory, achieving the level of Lead Quantitative Trader. A firm grounding in mathematics is a must and some level of computer science knowledge is strongly preferred.

THE DUTIES

  • The Analyst will spend the first year focused on learning theory and practice while gradually acquiring responsibilities as able, including:
  • Hedging standard daily trade flows and execute brokerage transactions
  • Interfacing with clients to ensure client satisfaction and identify new growth opportunities
  • Running daily risk processes to calculate P&L and risk metrics
  • Maintaining and improving codebase for automated desk processes
  • Reconciling product pricing, position statements, and valuations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • While there are no experience or educational degree requirements, we are looking for intellectually curious candidates who have demonstrated comfort in math, science or engineering.
  • Interviewees will be expected to have a firm grounding in basic probability theory and statistical inference.
  • Basic fluency in a computer programming language is strongly encouraged.
  • A candidate must be self-motivated and have a history of self-guided learning and a willingness to tackle challenging projects.
  • The role will be located in Chicago for at least the first year but may be remote thereafter.

The following represents FBN's reasonable estimate of the US national average base salary range for this role based on market data and placement of internal employees: $74,000-$91,000. This salary range may vary based on geography and the higher cost of labor in some metropolitan areas.
