Salary

  • AL, FL, GA, TN Residents:  $66,510 (min) - $84,800 (mid) - $103,090 (max)
  • NC Residents: $68,567 (min) - $87,422 (mid) - $106,278 (max)
  • DE, MD, PA, TX, VA Residents: $71,995 (min) - $91,793 (mid) - $111,592 (max)
  • DC Residents: $80,908 (min) - $103,158 (mid) - $125,408 (max)
  • CA, NY, NJ Residents:  $83,651 (min) - $106,655 (mid) - $129,659 (max)

Note: This role is half time, 20 hours per week. Hourly, W2 amounts should be viewed as half the amount listed in the compensation band. Max hourly wages are not guaranteed due to internal equity and project budget. 

  • **For example, a target compensation listing of $50,000 (at full time) would correlate to ~$25/hour, W2.**
  • **Target hiring range (at half time) with a cap of $49,200 ($98,400 at full time equivalency)**

 

Location

  • This role is 100% Remote
  • Core hours will be 11am - 4pm Eastern Time Zone.

Employment Type

  • Part-time, W2. On average working 16 to 20 hours per week. No more than 20 hours per week.

This role is integral to Fearless Digital’s mission of delivering impactful IT and digital services to government clients. The Technical Writer II will support the creation of high-quality documentation, including proposals, user guides, and technical manuals, ensuring alignment with Fearless standards and customer requirements. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver clear, concise, and engaging materials that support key projects and initiatives.

Summary

As a Technical Writer II at Fearless Digital, you will craft compelling, clear, and audience-specific documentation that enhances the understanding and usability of our cutting-edge IT solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with technical teams and stakeholders to translate complex concepts into user-friendly materials while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance. Your work will support key projects and proposals in the public sector, enabling Fearless Digital to achieve its mission of delivering bold, impactful solutions.

Responsibilities and Contributions:

Organizational and Leadership Role 

  • Executes on and implements technical documentation strategies to create impactful and accessible content.
  • Collaborates closely with technical teams, UX designers, project managers, and stakeholders to align content with organizational goals.
  • Supports the team in maintaining high standards for clarity, accuracy, and compliance in all documentation.
  • Strengthens Fearless Digital’s reputation for delivering compelling and compliant content through continuous improvement initiatives.

Functional Role 

  • Collaborates with technical and business stakeholders to gather and synthesize information for accurate and comprehensive documentation.
  • Develops, edits, and maintains documentation such as user manuals, technical reports, proposals, and training materials.
  • Ensures that all written materials meet Section 508 accessibility standards, branding guidelines, and customer expectations.
  • Produces high-quality content that is accurate, concise, and audience-specific.
  • Establishes consistent voice and tone across all documentation and communications.
  • Continuously updates the Fearless Digital documentation repository to improve efficiency and accessibility.
  • Translates complex technical concepts into language easily understood by non-technical audiences.
  • Identifies roadblocks in the documentation process and develops strategies to overcome them.
  • Independently manages writing projects, proactively seeking out technical and departmental resources to gather necessary information.

Essential Skills, Experience, and Competencies:

Must-Have Skills

  • Ability to obtain security clearance required by the project: Public Trust
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of Technical Writing experience.
  • Strong demonstrated proficiency in writing technical documentation for cloud infrastructure (AWS) environments.
  • Strong demonstrated experience developing, editing, and maintaining documentation such as user manuals, technical reports, proposals, and training materials.
  • High proficiency in utilizing Google Suite to write technical documentation.
  • Translates complex technical concepts into language easily understood by non-technical audiences.
  • Identifies roadblocks in the documentation process and develops strategies to overcome them.
  • Independently manages writing projects, proactively seeking out technical and departmental resources to gather necessary information.
  • Demonstrated expertise in technical writing, with a strong portfolio showcasing user-friendly and high-quality documentation.
  • Strong storytelling ability with advanced grammar, writing, and editing skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical information into clear and concise language.
  • Experience using technical writing tools, content management systems, and project management software.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards (e.g., Section 508, WCAG) and brand voice consistency.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to engage with cross-functional teams effectively.

Highly Desired Skills and Experience

  • Current/prior local, state, or federal government project experience.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools like Jira and Confluence.
  • Knowledge of IT concepts such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, and system development life cycles (SDLC).
  • Experience working with Cybersecurity teams (Compliance).
  • Certifications such as Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) or equivalent.
  • Visual storytelling abilities, including basic graphic design and use of visualization tools like Visio or Lucidchart.
  • Completed Bachelor's degree or higher in a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with digital services in the government domain or Baltimore tech community.
