Position Summary:
We are seeking an Automation & Integration Scientist to contribute to the development of lab automation, which underpins Quotient’s unique technology platform. This role involves the development and integration of automated workflows using our Hamilton liquid handling instruments alongside other automated equipment. The role also includes working on other Assay Development projects and providing automation support to the pipelines lab. We are looking for someone who will bring enthusiasm, attention to detail, and a deep-rooted desire to innovate to our team. This role is based in the vicinity of Cambridge UK and will be primarily based on site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support development and integration of lab automation, particularly liquid handling, within Assay Development and Pipelines processes.
- Integration of newly developed assays into Pipelines workflows, including process design and identification of technical solutions.
- Exploration of the latest technologies and literature to continue optimizing and improving our workflows, to support the company’s overarching goals.
- Troubleshoot existing assays and processes, using analytical skills and judgment to recommend innovative solutions.
- Provide automation support to the Pipelines team.
- Provide supervision and training for more junior lab members and/or technicians.
- Detailed recording of obtained results and communication of key findings to stakeholders across the company, both in written and presentation formats.
- Collaborate closely with other team members across the organization.
Requirements:
- BSc/MSc in molecular biology or a related field with 6+ years relevant experience or equivalent.
- Experience in working with lab automation, either in a development role or in a high-throughput lab.
- A proven track record writing and implementing lab automation scripts.
- Understanding and experience of molecular biology assays include NGS library preparation, PCR, qPCR, nucleic acid purification and quantification.
- Ability to work successfully in a project-based environment, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, integrate cross-functional issues and balance competing priorities effectively.
- A high degree of energy and attention to detail, and a passion for innovation and problem-solving.
- A desire to contribute to technologies that will enable the creation of transformative medicines for patients with serious diseases.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
