Position Summary:
We’re seeking a highly analytical, creative leader to fill the Competitive Intelligence / New Product Planning role within PM as part of our Portfolio Strategy and Operations team. You will be responsible for providing research and insights to improve the company's competitive advantage. This will be a central role in the Pioneering Medicines team working across projects and programs. This role is tasked with organizing, analyzing, and reporting on the therapeutic area landscape(s), competitive environments and value potential for our projects and assets.
This role is tasked with organizing, analyzing, and reporting key information to internal stakeholders to aid in strategic decision-making about programs in our portfolio. You will need to be able to deal with a wide variety of types of data, including but not limited to pharmaceutical, biological, clinical, patent, financial and market. You will also need to understand impact of existing pharmaceutical products on business strategy. In addition, s/he needs to be able to execute primary market research including design questionnaires and / or surveys and lead KOL interviews to extract both qualitative and quantitative market research.
**Please note this role requires a minimum of 3 days per week onsite at our Cambridge, MA office.
Responsibilities:
- Use scientific background to interpret data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations that deliver results, drive improvements, and influence leaders
- Efficiently organize and analyze large amounts of data to perform market landscape analysis) to build current and future outlook of competitive environments in relevant therapeutic area(s) and identify key trends and insights
- Monitor competitor activities and become an expert on key players, products, and disease market areas
- Present ad hoc business analyses and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify key areas of interest and develop data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making
- Understand and inform on the impact of existing pharmaceutical products to the PM portfolio strategy
- Develop and maintain relationships with program leadership to ensure alignment on priorities and needs
- Communicate findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders in a clear and concise manner to varied audience
- End-to-end management of competitive assessment and valuation projects and initiatives
- Continuously update and improve competitive intelligence processes and methods
Qualifications:
- PhD in life sciences with 4+ years biotech consulting, biotech investment banking, or competitive intelligence experience OR MS in life sciences with 6+ years of similar industry experience as a PhD
- Background in metabolism highly preferred
- A strong understanding of market trends, competitor analysis, and data analysis specifically related to the biotech industry
- Strategic thinker with excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, and relationship building skills
- Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and partnership skills, including synthesizing technical and financial information for senior management and presenting it to a varied audience.
- Effective time management, organization, and prioritization skills in managing multiple projects with proven ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- A "roll-up-your-sleeves" entrepreneurial attitude.
- Ability to work as a team member, multi-task and be very flexible to adapt to the ever-changing work priorities and requirements of a dynamic, fast-growing company
- Ability to work conscientiously and with minimal direction, using good judgment, taking initiative to accomplish short and long-range projects, and recommend actions with minimal direction
