What if... We could harness the power of Flagship’s scientific platforms and create novel treatment options that benefit more patients, sooner?

Pioneering Medicines (PM), a division of Flagship Pioneering, is building a world-class biopharmaceutical R&D capability focused on conceiving and developing life-changing treatments for patients by harnessing the power of Flagship's scientific platforms and applying those innovative approaches to serious diseases with unmet medical need. Unique to Pioneering Medicines’ approach is the opportunity to combine platforms to create truly novel and potentially transformative treatments.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to drive strategy and provide leadership in QSP and PK/PD science across our diverse drug discovery portfolio. The qualified candidate will apply knowledge and technical expertise to characterize systems biology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics-related aspects of novel therapies developed by the Pioneering Medicine team. We are seeking individuals who are analytical, goal-oriented and committed to maintaining the highest scientific and ethical standards. Strong communication skills and comfort working in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and validate mathematical QSP and PK/PD models for Biomarkers and Efficacy to elucidate quantitative PK/PD relationships in preclinical studies
  • Identify opportunities where model-informed drug development can advance the understanding of biology, pharmacological activity, and safety.
  • Explore the effects on target and pathway to understand the requirements for efficacy and set a candidate drug target profile.
  • Utilize preclinical ADME, pharmacology, and pharmacodynamic data to develop predictions for human efficacious dose.
  • Work with in vitro and in vivo pharmacology as well as translation sciences to guide and optimize in vitro experiments and preclinical studies
  • Ensure that supporting infrastructure (software, methods, external consulting support, etc.) is efficient and meets all required standards.

Education and Experience:

  • PhD. in pharmacology, engineering sciences, biophysics or applied mathematics with 5+ years of experience or BS/MS with 8+ years of experience in quantitative systems pharmacology, PK/PD modeling, or other related disciplines
  • Strong background in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies related to systems pharmacology, PK/PD and Systems Biology
  • Basic programming skills (e.g., R, Python, Matlab), hands-on modeling experience using Phoenix WinNonlin, Gastroplus, Simbiology and/or similar software packages
  • Experience supporting drug discovery programs based on standard therapeutic modalities (small molecules, antibodies, and/or peptides); working knowledge of gene-based therapy approaches (gene regulation, RNA medicine, gene therapy) desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with colleagues and collaborators representing diverse backgrounds
