Pioneering Medicines currently has 11 programs ongoing with plans to have more than 15 programs in 2024. Pioneering Medicines works with external strategic partners including Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and continues to engage in discussions on potential partnerships.

Position Summary:

Pioneering Medicines is seeking an ambitious, innovative and highly collaborative Principal Scientist/Associate Director to join our Biology and Pharmacology team. The position supports early discovery programs by leading the cross-functional effort from screening to DC nomination. Success in this role requires excellent communication and collaborative skills with a deep understanding of the biology and pharmacology of the program needs.  This role will require identifying risk, managing mitigation strategies, and working with internal and external partners to develop and execute research plans. While the candidate should have breadth and depth in biology and pharmacology, experience using LNP-mediated delivery is preferred. The candidate will be well supported by scientific leaders to develop experience and expertise in drug discovery, pharmacology and IND-enabling studies. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee research components of discovery programs within cross-functional teams as a matrix lead, guiding projects from lead ID to preclinical development stages
  • Work closely with scientists collaboratively to create strategic plans for discovery programs effectively communicating outcomes and contributing to team meetings, scientific discussions, and project planning
  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues and external partners for successful execution/completion of projects
  • Drive the planning and execution of experiments to generate comprehensive data packages to enable decision-making according to timelines
  • Communicate and interpret key datasets to the leadership team at governance meetings and research meetings
  • Mentor research associate level colleagues with technical expertise and scientific knowledge 

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or related field
  •  5+ years of industry or biotech experience
  • Experienced in advancing programs from screening to DC nomination, with additional experience in IND-enabling activities being preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills that convey clear and timely progress updates internally and with external partners
  • Experience as lead scientist with external partners with high value placed on collaboration and communication
  • Experience with multiple modalities (e.g. genetic medicines, biologics, small molecules) and multiple therapeutic areas. LNP-mediated delivery experience is preferred
  • Experience in in vitro and in vivo pharmacology, in vivo model development, in vitro/ex vivo assay development, and mechanism of action workstreams
