Position Summary:
We are seeking an Associate Scientist/Scientist Contractor to be responsible for developing and performing in vitro and ex vivo studies for the mechanism of action and efficacy of novel biological and/or small molecule therapeutic agents, including nucleic acid-based approaches, to support drug discovery efforts across multiple programs from target validation to human translation.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in cell-based assays using both cell lines and primary cells from rodent, non-human primate (NHP), and human sources. Previous in vitro experience with primary cells (e.g., adipocytes & hepatocytes) is highly desired. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple tasks, quickly learn new techniques, organize tasks efficiently, and maintain accurate records. Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with scientific colleagues in a team-oriented environment are essential.
This role is a 12-month contract. Pioneering Medicines 3rd party agency will be hiring for this position. Employees under this position with be working at Pioneering Medicines Cambridge, MA location as a contractor with the possibility to convert to a full-time Pioneering Medicines employee based on performance and other criteria in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and execute wet lab experiments for evaluating therapeutic targets in drug development; previous experience in metabolism is a plus.
- Work independently or as part of a collaborative team to support research activities and project goals.
- Adapt to a fast-paced environment and remain flexible in response to changes.
- Analyze data independently and communicate results, conclusions, and next steps to scientific leads.
- Conduct laboratory-based assays in BSL2/BSL2+ environments.
- Maintain excellent experimental records, including writing experimental protocols and managing an electronic lab notebook.
- Operate and maintain relevant equipment.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Master’s with a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in an academic setting or PhD degree in biology; biotech or industry experience is preferred.
- Prior experience with in vitro cell-based pharmacology assays using human or rodent primary cells.
- Proficient in assay development for testing compounds across different modalities.
- Hands-on experience with cell-based and molecular biology assays, such as flow cytometry, immunoblotting, ELISA/MSD, tissue processing, protein extraction and quantification, RNA isolation, and qPCR.
