About Alltrna

Alltrna unlocks tRNA biology to treat disease. The company’s platform incorporates AI/ML tools to develop and deliver diverse programmable molecules with broad therapeutic potential. Alltrna has an unprecedented opportunity to advance a single tRNA medicine to readthrough premature stop codons and unify treatment across a wide range of diseases with the same underlying genetic mutations. Alltrna was founded in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering. For more info, visit www.alltrna.com.

About The Role

Come join a collaborative team of scientists at Alltrna dedicated to developing a novel class of human therapeutics! We are seeking to hire an exceptional Scientist with strong background in NGS and molecular biology to lead our NGS core and play a key role in supporting our efforts to measure and characterize engineered tRNAs. The ideal candidate has deep experience with RNA-focused NGS methods, is driven to improve and scale existing technologies, and to develop robust processes in support of scientific objectives. As part of the Computational and Molecular Biology group, you’ll work directly with a cross-functional group of scientists that includes computational biologists, automation engineers, and molecular biologists contributing to the development of tRNA therapeutics.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support company-wide use of tRNA sequencing by coordinating and overseeing work of the NGS core.
  • Contribute to tRNA sequencing work by performing RNA extraction, library preparation, and data review.
  • Drive the continued improvement of tRNA sequencing by identifying and implementing solutions to problems of scale, reproducibility and quality of the method.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders relating to sequencing requests, supporting experimental design, sample submission, tracking experiment status, and troubleshooting unexpected results as needed.
  • Support the transition of sequencing methods from the late stages of their development to establish them as pipeline methods.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. PhD in biology or a related discipline with 0-2 years of experience working in biotech or a related industry, or M.S. with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  2. Expertise with a variety of Illumina-based NGS methods, including experience with RNA-centric methods and experience developing or implementing custom NGS methods.
  3. Demonstrated ability to drive improvements in quality, reproducibility, and/or scale of NGS methods.
  4. Experience interpreting NGS data in support of quality assessment, methodology improvement, and experimental troubleshooting.
  5. Experience managing or coordinating work of a small team.
  6. Demonstrated ability to implement and support technical and operational processes that contribute to the successful execution of scientific research at scale.
  7. Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly explain NGS methods and considerations around their application to team members of diverse backgrounds.
  8. Detail-oriented and organized with a strong ability to manage multiple experiments in parallel.

Preferred skills

  1. Experience using laboratory automation and collaborating with automation engineers on NGS methods.
  2. Experience using an electronic laboratory notebook system (ELN).

What We’ll Offer You

  • Comprehensive, competitive healthcare and dental coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield, vision coverage through VSP, family leave, paid time off, 401k retirement plan, disability and life insurance, and fully covered parking/commuter benefits.
  • A dynamic early-stage work environment and highly interdisciplinary, talented, and collaborative team.
  • Participation in an unprecedented opportunity to advance a single tRNA medicine to restore disrupted protein production, regardless of target, for thousands of diseases with the same underlying genetic mutation.
  • Professional growth opportunities through mentoring, training, immersion in cross-functional projects, and opportunities to learn and try new things.
  • Be part of the team that writes the playbook for developing tRNA molecules and you will be critical not only in ensuring that we can understand how our formulations perform in living systems but also in defining how we manufacture for our clinical programs.
