Position Summary:

We are seeking a passionate, creative, and self-driven scientist with expertise in protein engineering to join our team to design protein-based delivery modalities including antibodies. S/he will pioneer the design and testing of first-in-class biologics for targeted intracellular delivery of payloads. They will thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and highly collaborative start-up environment, with the opportunity to work closely with Flagship Pioneering founders and become a leader in advancing FL108’s scientific platform and patient-focused mission.

Responsibilities:

• Pioneer the design of novel protein classes for targeted internalization
• Engineer novel functionalities into protein scaffolds, leveraging structural modeling, rational design, and/or directed evolution
• Characterize biophysical properties of designed proteins to inform future design cycles
• Lead as a subject matter expert, advising design and strategy related to protein engineering, and implementing knowledge and techniques that are state-of-the-art in the field
• Collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team of scientists to develop, validate, and optimize prototypes
• Help shape strategy and contribute meaningfully to building our platform at the forefront of scientific innovation
• Identify and lead external research relationships with academic and commercial partners
• Report results to scientific team and Flagship Pioneering management

Key Qualifications:

• Ph.D. (with 2+ yrs of research experience) in protein biochemistry or related field
• Scientific expertise in protein engineering of diverse scaffolds, including antibodies and bispecifics
• Familiarity with library-based display technologies and directed protein evolution
• Structural modeling and rational design experience is strongly preferred
• Experience with reformatting antibody frameworks (e.g., bispecifics) is preferred
• Experience in ADCs & AOCs highly encouraged
• Experience in conjugation is preferred
• Strategic thinker, able to shift seamlessly between rigorous scientific details and high-level context and implications
• Instinctive team player with excellent communication skills and great attention to detail
