Help us streamline client’s customs processes!

The opportunity: 

Flexport is experiencing massive growth with 3000+ Flexporters across 14 global offices and warehouses, and we’re just getting started. 

With revenue growing at breakneck speed, Flexport is looking for a Customs Manager to lead our customs team in Hamburg, Germany. This is the perfect position for an experienced manager with a background in customs who is detail-oriented, process-orientated, and loves to build! The position will have you working alongside and learning from some of the smartest people in the customs & logistics industry as we challenge the status quo and reduce the friction in global trade and showcase clients how to simplify their customs flow. 

What you'll do: 

  • Own and manage a customs brokerage function. 
  • Be a P&L owner, drive customs revenue, and help design new product offerings. 
  • Work with the sales teams on building a go-to-market strategy and jump in to provide high-level guidance on all things customs to prospecting clients. 
  • Lead, mentor, hire and develop a team of high performing customs professionals. 
  • Think outside the box and find new ways of working that challenge the norm. 
  • Assist in high-level customs topic discussions around classification, origin, and valuation. 
  • Assist in client onboarding, customs SOPs and overall customer satisfaction. 
  • Manage projects to build new tech, implement new service offerings and manage different workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal & External stakeholders in the development of operational efficiencies whilst being customer centric.

Your contribution: 

  • A true passion for everything customs and compliance - keeping up to date on updates and being a member of specific trade forums. 
  • Experience with using customs softwares *bonus points if you have used AEB or Dakosy 
  • Minimum of 5 years of current experience in Management, 
  • Minimum of 5 years of current experience in customs & forwarding. 
  • An ability to manage a large team performing many different functions 
  • A strong network within the German customs market. 
  • A proven track record of building processes, implementing new ideas and a passion for thinking outside of the box. 
  • Familiarity with Customs product classification, origin , valuation and the EU tariff. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 
  • A problem solver at heart. 
  • An obsession with client satisfaction. You succeed when they succeed. 
  • Courage to challenge the status quo when logic and reason require it. See something broken? Fix it. 
  • High level of computer literacy. 
  • Ability to manage a range of tasks, a team and projects. 

Nice to haves: 

  • A deep understanding of special procedures such as IP/OP/TA (is a bonus). 
  • A case study of where you have implemented a duty mitigation program for a client or saved your current company with implementation or process improvements. 
  • A passion for writing about customs topics and being a contributor to our blog series.
