The Role of Senior Manager, Ocean Freight, Benelux consists of managing, together with our Demand teams, our Ocean P&L for our Benelux market, where Flexport European Headquarters are located. You will be part of the EMEA Regional Ocean team and your #1 mission will be to grow our ocean portfolio in Dutch and Belgium markets.

The role belongs to a small 2-person team, we hence need a  hands-on builder, able to think strategically but willing to dive deep in details whenever needed.

You will sit at the junction between Trade Procurement and Sales/Account Management teams. 

On one hand you will own our ocean product and pricing acting as a right arm of commercial teams to win and grow ocean businesses. You will meet clients, educate our sales team about the ocean market, decide on our short and long term pricing strategies, and monitor the performance of our Benelux books.

On the other hand you will work closely with Trade procurement teams to translate our clients needs, manage our FAK/NAC allocations and align on procurement and pricing strategies for our Benelux clients.

You will also liaise with our Finance, Ops, Quoting/Booking teams in order to optimise your portfolio performance. 

Finally, you will be a force to drive change and progress. At Flexport we continuously thrive to leverage our technology to standardize and automate our processes. You will engage with our product teams to project manage new tools and processes we want to roll out!

Your responsibilities as a Senior Manager, Ocean Freight, Benelux include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Manage a sizable Ocean P&L for your district through scaling volume and increasing yield
  • Be the market expert and support the commercial organization with market-specific intelligence, trade idiosyncrasies, and directly interfacing with customer
  • Help design products and generate customized go-to-market strategies for customers
  • Own tenders and RFQs for your district to secure regional and global customers
  • Interface with procurement and pricing teams to drive profitable business, identify growth opportunities, and capture market-specific knowledge
  • Identify and drive improvement in go-to-market, operational, and financial processes
  • Build and own P&L review and actively participate in book of business growth rhythms
  • Use data to drive decisions
  • Help drive near and long term district forecasting
  • Join on a regular basis client calls and webinars
  • Build and maintain relationships with a portfolio of partner carriers (Account Executives, Senior Leadership in country/global)
  • Drive all financial health levers for your district including quoting, invoicing, and dispute escalation
  • Work across Procurement, Pricing, Planning, and other relevant teams to deliver globally optimized results to the Ocean P&L

Prerequisites:

  • 7+ years of prior Ocean Freight experience at a top freight forwarder or carrier or 7+ years of supply chain experience and a BA/BS Degree;
  • Strategic vision and ground floor execution;
  • Bias to Action, Process, Structure and Data;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
  • An obsession with client happiness. You succeed when they succeed;
  • Ability to travel regionally;
