The Opportunity:

As a Staff Software Engineer at Flexport, you’ll be at the forefront of driving technical excellence within our engineering team. You’ll have the opportunity to design and implement large-scale distributed systems and take ownership of high-impact projects that transform the way goods are moved around the world. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and lead by example to solve complex challenges in logistics, optimization, and e-commerce.

You Will:

  • Lead and deliver complex technical projects that impact the entire company.
  • Design, architect, and implement scalable systems in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, operations, and design teams to create solutions that improve the global trade experience.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to elevate the engineering team.
  • Maintain high coding standards, review pull requests, and ensure systems are well-tested, monitored, and scalable.
  • Drive technical improvements and ensure Flexport stays on the cutting edge of technology.
  • Play a key role in defining and influencing the engineering roadmap and technical strategy.

You Should Have:

  • Basic Qualifications:

    • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on designing and building distributed systems.
    • Expertise in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go, or JavaScript).
    • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
    • Proven experience working on complex systems and delivering large-scale projects.
    • Ability to write high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code.
    • Deep understanding of software development lifecycle and best practices (e.g., version control, CI/CD, automated testing).
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with stakeholders.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization, and microservices.
    • Hands-on experience in logistics, supply chain, e-commerce, or fulfillment systems.
    • Familiarity with SQL, NoSQL databases, and messaging queues (e.g., SQS, Kafka).
    • A passion for mentoring and helping grow engineering talent within the organization.
