An overview of this role
As an Engineering Manager at GitLab, you see your team as your most valuable product. Your primary focus is on the people you lead—guiding them, nurturing their growth, and ensuring they have everything they need to succeed. While you're technically credible and understand the details of the work being done, your role is about empowering a world-class engineering team, fostering their health, and driving delivery on product commitments.
In this role, you will lead the Organizations team, which is responsible for building out our Organizations feature. This feature allows for centralized management of GitLab groups and projects. It also plays a key role in our horizontally scalable Cells architecture.
Challenges in this role include growing top-tier talent, improving productivity, and working cross-functionally to deliver on the closely linked Cells and Organizations initiatives. You’ll work closely with engineering leadership, product managers, frontend engineers, and backend engineers. Your leadership will have an impact across the entire GitLab product as we migrate and adapt features to work with Organizations.

What you’ll do
- Hire and manage a globally-distributed, high-performing team that lives our values
- Hold regular 1:1s with all members of your team, providing coaching and regular feedback around the individual’s performance.
- Collaborate with the product manager and key leaders across the company to create a shared roadmap and drive adoption of the Organization feature.
- Foster technical decision making on the team, but make final decisions when necessary.
- Run agile project management processes and contribute to process improvements within the team and stage group.
- Participate in the Incident Management on-call rotation to help ensure the availability goals for GitLab.com are met, by working with reliability engineers and development team members.
What you’ll bring
- 2+ years of experience managing software development teams, with a strong technical background.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate in a high-performance, remote work environment across multiple time zones and cultures.
- Experience working on foundational features in a complex SaaS environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering high-quality results in fast-paced, dynamic environment.

It’s a Plus if You Have
- Experience working in a complex, mature application running in a large-scale environment.
- Working knowledge of the team’s primary tech stack - Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Vue.js.
- Used GitLab for personal or professional projects.
- Past experience working in an enterprise developer tools company.
- Contributed to open source projects.
