The Private Company Coverage Group (PCCG), based in London, is seeking to hire an Associate to join its dynamic and growing team. This is a new function and therefore the role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside senior bankers and contribute meaningfully to business development and origination efforts across a broad range of sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of PCCG Europe and will be responsible for supporting the origination of sell-side mandates and bolt-on acquisition opportunities. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with sector coverage teams to identify and develop strategic opportunities across priority sectors;
- Conducting detailed industry research to understand key market trends, investment themes, and areas of strategic focus;
- Developing comprehensive market maps, capturing key data on target companies within specified sectors;
- Coordinating with the offshore research team in India, including assigning research tasks, reviewing output, and providing constructive feedback and ongoing training;
- Engaging with target companies through various channels (e.g., email, LinkedIn, and phone) to initiate discussions and arrange introductory meetings;
- Building and maintaining relationships with C-level executives and founders of private companies;
- Supporting bolt-on acquisition initiatives for priority private equity-backed portfolio companies;
- Maintaining and updating CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) to track market coverage and outreach activities;
- Contributing to process enhancements and strategic development within the team;
- Assisting bankers in pipeline development and business origination efforts;
- Representing the firm at industry conferences and events; and
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members, including analysts.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in an origination-focused role within investment banking, private equity, or a related financial services environment;
- Strong research and market analysis skills, with the ability to identify thematic trends and gather detailed company-level intelligence;
- Demonstrated ability to assess business models, perform high-level financial analysis, and evaluate competitive positioning and product offerings;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven track record of managing relationships with company leadership teams and founders;
- Strong presentation skills, with experience delivering insights to both internal stakeholders and external clients;
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational capabilities, and a high standard of professional excellence;
- Fluency in English (both written and spoken); and
- Proficiency in commonly used research tools and technology platforms.
