As a Software Engineer for Lyft Media – you will work on one of Lyft’s newest lines of business focused on building the world’s largest transportation media network. We build products that allow brands to engage with our unique audience throughout their transportation journeys. For this role we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our growing Ad Infra Engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and optimize the backend systems powering our ad-serving platform. You will play a critical role in shaping the future of our ads business, driving innovation in targeted ad delivery, campaign management, and monetization at scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Build scalable, high-performance backend systems for real-time ad serving, campaign management, and reporting.
  • Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and other engineers to define and implement features that meet business and user needs.
  • Continuously improve ad delivery systems to maximize revenue while maintaining user experience quality.
  • Develop robust APIs and services that connect our ad platform with internal and third-party systems.
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code while implementing best practices for code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and system observability
  • Help define the roadmap and architecture based on technology and business needs
  • Have a good grasp and ability to explain the various tradeoffs made in decisions
  • Lead projects from idea to positive execution
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge 
  • Proactively participate in resolving ongoing incidents 
  • Share your knowledge by giving brown bags, tech talks, and evangelizing appropriate tech and engineering best practices

Experience:

  • BSc/MSc in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, related field or relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of engineering experience working in any of these stacks: Python, GO, Java, etc.
  • 2+ years of specific ad tech experience - ad-serving principles, real-time bidding (RTB), targeting, and programmatic advertising.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and database design (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Proven experience designing and deploying systems that handle high volumes of traffic with low latency.
  • Experience with large-scale data processing, streaming systems (e.g., Kafka), and data storage solutions is a plus.
  • Experience with Linux.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for tackling complex challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with experience working in cross-functional teams.

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid

The expected range of pay for this position in the New York City area is $148,000 - $185,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
