We are seeking a talented Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic Batch Compute Team. We are in search of individuals who have extensive experience in large scale data systems. In this role, you'll be instrumental in owning these systems, designing, developing and setting the vision of offline compute at Lyft. Your work will have a major impact on several areas of the business.

We are looking for experienced candidates who are self starters and have a proven track record of delivering major projects that can solve critical business needs. The candidate should be able to dive deep into any problem areas with lots of ambiguity and build a technical solution to solve it. They should be willing to take complete ownership of a charter or a system and be able to set a vision for it.

Responsibilities:

  • Own, lead and set the vision for one or more large scale offline compute systems
  • Work with data engineers, data scientists, ML engineers and software engineers from other orgs to understand their requirements, build solutions and enforce best practices
  • Innovate how ETLs and offline compute should work at Lyft
  • Set high standards, mentor and coach other engineers on the team

Experience:

  • 9+ years of experience working with open source systems like Hive, Spark, Presto etc.
  • 7+ years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, and/or experience with compute technologies
  • Expertise in configuring, optimizing and debugging large scale compute clusters
  • Possess a strong understanding of the latest data technologies and has the ability to bring in cross-industry partnerships and knowledge into the team
  • Strong proficiency in working with kubernetes and container technologies (e.g. Docker, cri-o, etc)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with teams across various orgs
  • Experience working with kubernetes and container technologies (e.g. Docker, cri-o, etc)
  • Familiar with a cloud-based environments such as AWS/GCP/Azure
  • Bonus: experience with envoy

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $172,000-$237,000 USD. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
