The opportunity 

As a Sr. Electrical Engineer with expertise in power management system integration, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the electrical design of Magic Leap’s next generation devices. We are looking for individuals with a passion for solving complex technical challenges and delivering world-class hardware designs in the augmented reality space. 

This role is based at our HQ in Plantation, FL and will require onsite presence the majority of the time. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

What you’ll do 

  • Work independently with limited supervision, managing design and integration of power management subsystems
  • Printed Circuit Board(PCB) definition and design including electrical schematic and layout
  • Evaluate new technologies and components for introduction into next-generation designs
  • Perform design optimization through PI/PDN simulations
  • Conduct prototype bring-up and debugging of issues
  • Support manufacturing and new product introduction teams for prototype builds
  • Conduct Design Verification testing and optimizations of prototypes to ensure power subsystems (i.e. PMICs, Regulators, Battery, Charger, PD etc.) performance
  • Participate in cross-functional team efforts to meet all safety, regulatory, and performance goals
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal partners to support product definition, requirements, and expectations
  • Support hardware and systems decisions through all phases of research & development, engineering design cycles, and validation through productization

The experience you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience in an applicable field
  • 5+ years direct experience in power management design with a solid understanding of power systems, analog electronics, and microprocessor architectures
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Demonstrated intimate knowledge of Power Management hardware design and integration
  • Experience using PI/PDN simulations to drive design and optimization
  • Solid understanding of concepts in electrical engineering hardware design
  • Battery Life and power optimization experience in low-power systems
  • Experience performing thermal characterization and optimization
  • Schematic and PCB design experience using Cadence OrCAD or other CAD solutions.
  • Experience working with I2C/SPI/UART/SPMI interfaces
  • Experience working with high-speed interfaces (e.g. USB-C, PCIe, DisplayPort, MIPI, DDR etc.) is highly preferable
  • Experience using electrical bench equipment (power supplies, power analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, logic analyzers, function generators, etc.)
  • Technical communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience participating in cross-functional team discussions and driving data-driven decisions

It’s exciting if you also have

  • Software design experience. Coding skills in C, C++, Python, etc
  • Understanding of computer architectures like GPU, CPU, Neural Networks &  compute engines like RISC-V
  • Distributed compute architecture experience
  • Experience using EE Simulation tools: e.g. PSPICE, SI/PI tools, Matlab
  • Knowledge of USB PD test and verification

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus, equity, and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.
US Base Salary Range
$115,000$145,000 USD
