Major League Baseball is seeking an enthusiastic candidate for a Coordinator position in the Umpire Operations group, which falls under the larger Baseball Operations department. Our goal is to find individuals willing to learn about the nuances of umpiring, while also possessing the necessary skills and traits to aid in supporting our Major and Minor League Umpires on and off the field. As a member of Umpire Operations, you will be fully immersed in our department and given the resources to learn, grow, and develop with visibility into the numerous aspects of our Major League Umpiring and Umpire Development efforts.
You will assist with day-to-day administration of various evaluation systems and the rules of the game, while also engaging in discussions to generate ideas on how to grow umpiring as a whole from the local level all the way to professional baseball as well as gaining efficiencies in the multitude of operational challenges with staffing the thousands of MLB and MiLB games played each season.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the daily, mid-year, and year-end evaluation processes for Major and Minor League Umpires using various internal systems including BLUE, SURE, and ZE.
- Assist in the organization and logistics for Umpiring Department meetings, MLB Umpire Camps (“MLBUC”) and other events.
- Act as a point of contact for Major and Minor League Umpires on multiple administrative-related topics.
- Assist with the posting of games in the SURE system for evaluation by the Umpiring Department supervisory staff.
- Provide quality checks of and develop metrics to measure the data in various Umpiring centric systems.
- Aid Umpiring Department with operational oversight and auditing of budgetary constraints for various Major and Minor League events (e.g., Spring Training, Instructional Leagues, etc).
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Detail-oriented with experience managing deliverables with time-sensitive deadlines
- Highly organized and the ability to multitask
- Strong communication skills including clear and precise writing skills
- Must have the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Willingness to work on nights and weekends, particularly during the season
- Strong baseball, particularly pertaining to umpiring and the Official Baseball Rules, knowledge/acumen
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
Pay Range: $65,000 - $72,500
As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
