MAJOR PURPOSE:
The Jackie Robinson Training Complex is in search of a dynamic college or graduate student to join us as an Intern, Events & Catering within our Food and Beverage Department for the upcoming Spring season. This internship provides a unique opportunity for the selected candidate to gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of our hospitality business, learning the intricacies of event development and management while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate on all facets of food and beverage catering events and concessions operations, encompassing menu development, pricing, banquet event orders, and on-site event management within the Restaurant.
Collaborate with external vendors, such as food suppliers and linen rental companies, to support event logistics.
Attend staff meetings, client meetings, and caterer meetings to ensure seamless communication.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of health and safety standards in the hospitality industry.
Manage food inventory, orders, and vendor shipments, coordinating closely with kitchen staff.
Work closely with kitchen staff to provide high-quality meals and food items according to JRTC recipes.
Uphold JRTC standards for food portions and presentation.
Check ingredient quality and prepare ingredients for cooking (e.g., chopping, peeling vegetables, cutting meat).
Maintain a sanitized and orderly kitchen environment.
Ensure proper storage of all food and items.
Oversee bar inventory, place orders, and manage bar service setup.
Monitor inventory and reconciliation processes, adhering to company policies and procedures for bartending service and concessions.
Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Food & Beverage.
REQUIREMENTS:
The preferred candidate will have a 2- or 4-year degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited 4-year program, with at least 3 years completed, will also be considered if they are available for the duration of the internship.
Strong passion for learning about food and beverage event management within an organizational setting.
Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at working collaboratively in teams.
Exceptional attention to detail, initiative-taking, hardworking, and eager to learn.
Critical thinking abilities in a demanding environment, coupled with effective time management skills.
Availability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Possession of a valid Driver's License and an excellent driving record.
Capability to operate industrial machinery and lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, general knowledge of purchasing and budget principles, and knowledge of social media platforms and website management are advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience as a waiter, cook, catering staff, or other hospitality position preferred, but not required.
Ability to assist in pulling athletic field tarps when necessary.
