Modulr is one of the fastest growing payments businesses in the UK and Europe and we are looking to hire a Financial Accountant into the central finance team in Edinburgh on an initial fixed term contract.
Summary of project
In this role you will ensure all aspects of Modulr’s management accounts are recorded correctly, work with the wider financial control team on coding queries, prepayment and accrual postings, and help prepare various management and board reporting. This is a great opportunity to have an impact on the reporting function of a scaling regulated business.

The team
You will work closely with the Financial Control team based mainly in Edinburgh as well as the management team based in Netherlands. The wider business teams are based in Edinburgh, Amsterdam and London. Modulr has an office first policy, meaning we believe our scaling plans can only be achieve by the team being present in the office, fostering unplanned and cross-team interaction.
Specific duties
You will need to be comfortable doing the following:
- Improve month end close processes to enable faster, more accurate reporting.
- Support month-end close through to the production of individual entity and consolidated monthly management accounts.
- Variance analysis between actual and budgeted, to tell the month end story and identify any potential posting errors.
- Internal month-end reporting (management accounts, Board packs, etc).
- Analyse and provide commentary on Modulr’s European financial performance, providing clear updates to senior management.
- Reconciling historic VAT returns for Netherlands, France, Spain and Ireland, ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements in each country.
- Process journals and support / improve current systems and processes.
- Undertake ad-hoc duties as required.
About you
You will have a track-record in delivering results in a dynamic business environment and hence you must be comfortable with change and uncertainty. More specifically the ideal candidate will be:
- Familiar with month-end close process and production of management accounts.
- Part-Qualified or Qualified by Experience, working in a similar role.
- Hands-on and be comfortable to roll up your sleeves to achieve the goals of the finance team and wider business.
- Able to manage stakeholder as you’ll be working with many of our internal teams and senior leadership.
- Advanced with Excel – knowledge of xlookups.
- Comfortable with VAT returns (desirable but not essential).
- Experienced working with NetSuite (desirable but not essential).
