To meet this demand, we are looking for a passionate technical Product Marketing leader for our growing, globally dispersed Competitive Intelligence (CI) Team. This team's objective is to ensure a fair and objective comparison of MongoDB versus other offerings in the market, assist our customers in making informed choices, and assist internal teams in understanding the competitive landscape.  

As part of the global Product Marketing organization, this highly visible role will span the data technology space including OLTP, Streaming, Search, Vector, AI-related data capabilities, and supporting toolchains and environments. The right leader for this role will get hands-on and energized by keeping the pulse of the data industry's most current and progressive innovations, trends, and needs worldwide. Communicating with clarity and being resourceful is critical for this function. This leader will regularly be expected to provide reports and updates to the MongoDB Senior Leadership Team with concise and actionable competitive analysis and market information.

As the Director of the MongoDB Competitive Intelligence team, you are the leader of a high-performing team and will set the strategy and direction. You define the priorities and ensure quality in execution and the right amount of urgency when required, constantly leveling up with our company's growth and the evolving needs of our customers. 

The scope of this role also includes the creation of enablement content for our GTM and marketing teams to help make it easier for them to understand the competitive landscape and confidently articulate MongoDB’s position and competitive differentiation in the market.

The team you will manage is technically deep, and their responsibilities range from early research into potential competitors, collaboration with external partners, and generating materials for multiple parts of the organization. Superb communication and presentation skills are a paramount prerequisite.  

As part of the global Product Marketing organization, you’ll work closely with various company functions, including product, partners, marketing, and sales. While New York City is preferred, the location for this role is flexible and can be remote for the right candidate.

As an ideal candidate, you will have

  • 10+ years in the cloud, infrastructure, or data industry
  • Confidence and deep experience briefing executives and driving a cross-functional competitive strategy discussion
  • Deep technical understanding of the data landscape, data technologies, and their value drivers in enterprise settings
  • Experience in the analysis and interpretation of competitive data 
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, from the technical to the executive level – with the ability to visualize and communicate complex information to all levels of an organization - both internally and externally 
  • Experience and confidence briefing leading industry analysts and press
  • The ability to travel globally up to 30%

You may also have

  • Advanced Degree with proven background (i.e. Masters, Ph.D), or equivalent experience 
  • Hands-on experience working with various database products, ETL tools, and software solutions 
  • Worked as an industry analyst
  • Experience with database programming and data models

  • You lead the competitive intelligence team, build out a team strategy, and lead with clearly defined metrics
  • You will be the people manager for the competitive team and are responsible for their development and progress
  • You advise the technical teams of MongoDB and clients in the understanding of competitive vendors and advantages and disadvantages of their technologies in an intellectually honest and transparent matter
  • You partner with our sales team to help ensure success in accounts ranging from small startups to large enterprises
  • You present MongoDB’s position at various events - either in person or digital
  • You are tightly aligned with our product management organization and communicate field requirements, changes you see in industry requirements to the product management leadership, including regular competitive updates
  • You demonstrate resilience and sound judgment in dealing with business challenges and can guide more junior colleagues to a successful resolution pattern
  • You proactively seek opportunities to support and mentor pre-sales team members and share best practices 
  • You have situational awareness and react appropriately in group settings

What you will learn

    • Core database server
    • Atlas (fully managed cloud database service)

  • Market-relevant, complementary technologies: e.g., Apache Kafka, Kubernetes
  • Modern and popular architecture design patterns, methodologies and concerns e.g. microservices, event-driven architectures, DevOps, cloud, security
  • Sales techniques and related soft skills - presentations, demonstrations, whiteboarding, discovery, objection handling
  • Exposure to a wide variety of market verticals and a broad spectrum of interesting use cases

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:
$160,000$315,000 USD
