MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

MongoDB is looking for a Director, Startup Programs & Engagement to own and scale the MongoDB for Startups program, drive adoption through targeted growth marketing, and execute a high-impact event strategy that strengthens our position in the global startup and venture ecosystem.

This is a high-ownership, hands-on role for a builder who thrives at the intersection of strategy, execution, and community. You’ll be responsible for evolving our startup program into a must-have resource for early-stage companies, while designing and executing events that engage founders, developers, and investors across the world’s leading startup hubs. You’ll manage a small but agile team, including hiring a Technical Evangelist to support events and programming.

You will work cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, Partnerships, Developer Relations, and MongoDB Ventures to deliver real value to early-stage founders and reinforce MongoDB’s position as the go-to data platform for AI-native startups.

This role is ideal for someone who’s just as comfortable launching a lifecycle marketing campaign as they are hosting a founder dinner, planning a hackathon, or reimagining the startup onboarding experience.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in San Francisco for our hybrid working model.

Own & Scale MongoDB for Startups

  • Take ownership of the MongoDB for Startups program, including program benefits, positioning, GTM plan, onboarding flow, and performance tracking.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Marketing, Sales, and Partnerships to scale awareness and deepen integration with MongoDB’s GTM motion.
  • Analyze program data to uncover bottlenecks and opportunities—run experiments to continuously improve performance and ROI

Design & Execute the Startup Event Strategy

  • Build and execute a focused, high-impact events strategy—including hosted dinners, executive roundtables, hackathons, conference activations, and partner co-hosted events.
  • Personally lead the production of ~20 events in the Bay Area annually, ensuring MongoDB shows up in the right rooms and with the right narrative.
  • Hire and onboard a Technical Evangelist to ensure events include relevant technical content and developer-focused engagement.
  • Manage vendor coordination, post-event follow-ups, and performance reporting to ensure events drive business impact—not just attendance.

Amplify MongoDB’s Presence in the Startup & VC Ecosystem

  • Build relationships with founders, investors, and ecosystem operators to strengthen MongoDB’s visibility and reputation.
  • Collaborate with MongoDB Ventures to ensure portfolio companies receive programmatic and strategic support.

Execute Founder-Facing Growth Marketing

  • Build and own the startup founder and builder journey—from initial interest to onboarding to power user.
  • Launch targeted campaigns, nurture sequences, and technical onboarding flows that reflect startup priorities (e.g., speed to build, AI integration, scale) in close collaboration with Growth Marketing.
  • Ensure consistent, compelling messaging across channels—website, email, events, VC communications, and content.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to co-create content and experiences that engage technical founders and drive deeper usage of MongoDB Atlas.

Who You Are

  • 8+ years of experience in startup marketing, program development, or ecosystem-facing roles; experience in developer tools, SaaS, or B2B growth preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the startup and venture ecosystem—you’ve worked with founders, understand early-stage needs, and know how to add value.
  • Experience owning and executing end-to-end programs, events, or GTM campaigns—ideally all three.
  • Strong project manager and communicator—you’re able to get alignment and drive execution across multiple teams without formal authority.
  • A doer-first—you prefer building over briefing, and you aren’t afraid to run your own events, write your own copy, or QA your own onboarding flows.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with Sales, Developer Relations, Solutions Architects, and Growth Marketing.
  • Bonus points for experience engaging developer or technical audiences, especially in the AI, data, or cloud space.
