About Netskope
Today, there's more data and users outside the enterprise than inside, causing the network perimeter as we know it to dissolve. We realized a new perimeter was needed, one that is built in the cloud and follows and protects data wherever it goes, so we started Netskope to redefine Cloud, Network and Data Security.
Since 2012, we have built the market-leading cloud security company and an award-winning culture powered by hundreds of employees spread across offices in Santa Clara, St. Louis, Bangalore, London, Melbourne, Taipei, and Tokyo. Our core values are openness, honesty, and transparency, and we purposely developed our open desk layouts and large meeting spaces to support and promote partnerships, collaboration, and teamwork. From catered lunches and office celebrations to employee recognition events (pre and hopefully post-Covid) and social professional groups such as the Awesome Women of Netskope (AWON), we strive to keep work fun, supportive and interactive. Netskope Client’s centralized configuration, deployment, support, and troubleshooting delivers comprehensive security and control across the borderless modern threat landscape.
What’s in it for you
We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Backend Distinguished Engineer to join our elite engineering team. As a senior technical leader, you will play a critical role in shaping the backend architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security of our cloud security products. You will work alongside product and security teams to design and build highly secure, performance-optimized cloud solutions that address complex challenges faced by businesses in today’s dynamic threat landscape.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role with the opportunity to influence the strategic direction of the company’s technology stack. You will mentor and lead engineers, contribute to architecture and design decisions, and drive innovation to advance the security of cloud environments.
What you will be doing
- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of secure, scalable, and efficient backend systems to support our cloud security solutions.
- Provide deep technical guidance, mentorship, and code reviews to engineering teams, ensuring best practices in software development, security, and cloud-native technologies.
- Collaborate with the security team to identify, design, and integrate security best practices into the backend services and infrastructure. Lead efforts to harden systems against vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Leverage modern cloud infrastructure and platform services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, and private cloud) to build robust, cost-effective, and highly available backend systems that scale globally.
- Continuously assess and improve system performance, scalability, and availability, optimizing backend architecture to handle large-scale traffic while ensuring low-latency and high reliability.
- Drive innovation in backend development and contribute to the overall technology strategy of the company. Stay ahead of trends in cloud security, microservices, and backend development to integrate the latest technologies.
- Work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, security architects, and other stakeholders to ensure backend solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements.
- Ensure that all code is of the highest quality, writing unit tests, conducting design reviews, and helping to implement CI/CD pipelines.
Required skills and experience
- 20+ years of experience in backend engineering with a focus on cloud-native technologies and security, preferably in a cloud security, cybersecurity, or SaaS company.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong proficiency in backend development languages (e.g., Go, Java, Python, Scala, Node.js).
- Expertise in microservices architecture, RESTful API design, and event-driven systems.
- Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, and private cloud) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
- Deep understanding of security protocols, cryptography, and secure coding practices.
- Expertise in distributed systems, high-availability architecture, and fault tolerance.
- Proven track record of leading engineering teams, mentoring senior developers, and driving technical excellence in complex systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on delivering innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Familiarity with cloud security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, network security, and incident response.
- Ability to articulate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives.
Nice to have
- Experience with cloud security products (e.g., CSPM, CIEM, Cloud WAF) or security tools.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and secure software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, or Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP).
Education
- BS Computer Science required, MS Computer Science strongly preferred
