The Role

Palantir’s dynamic Legal Team works to proactively address legal and regulatory issues as Palantir continues to drive and deliver positive impact in the world. As a Risk and Compliance Specialist - Global Trade, you will assist with both growing and scaling a first-class, global trade compliance program and conducting high-volume compliance screenings for due diligence purposes. Our team collaborates across the global Palantir community to understand and categorize the technical solutions we build and deploy around the world. Whether operating solo or collaboratively, we endeavor to achieve great results on challenging projects.

As a Risk and Compliance Specialist - Global Trade, you’ll provide critical support and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams when managing our product classifications, including classifications of new products. You’ll play a key role in implementing and maintaining our trade compliance policies and trainings, and managing our compliance with applicable export license requirements. You’ll also play a substantial role in conducting customer due diligence, supplier vetting and partner review to identify potential risks of doing business with third parties.

As a member of Palantir’s Legal team, you’ll be expected to deliver upon and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with consistency. You’ll also leverage your excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, learn, and influence a global network of management-level personnel and stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage product classifications, coordinating with relevant product POCs to ensure existing classifications remain up to date and new products have classifications before they are finalized.
  • Collaborate closely with cross functional groups early on in new products or ventures to ensure they are structured with consideration to trade regulations and future limitations on international sales or need for export licenses.
  • Ensure technical data from third parties is marked and treated with the appropriate handling classifications.
  • Assess need for TAA or other U.S. government export license on transactions involving international government customers and manage compliance with export license requirements.
  • Draft, maintain, and update internal trade compliance (ITAR/EAR/OFAC) policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Assist with submission of U.S. government trade controls and customs registrations and reports.
  • Support drafting or negotiation of trade compliance contract language.
  • Conduct high-volume compliance screening, as well as deep-dive due diligence research, on a wide range of third parties including customers, individuals and suppliers.
  • Draft succinct, high-quality risk assessments, coordinate with other stakeholders and present to high-level internal decision-makers on a regular basis.
  • Support a variety of legal compliance risk projects in order to meet emerging business needs.
  • What We Value

  • Previous experience in a trade compliance role for a U.S. defense contractor and/or SaaS company contracting with the U.S. government is strongly preferred.
  • Strong program/project management skills, including organizational skills and ability to handle projects with competing deadlines.
  • Prior experience engaging with engineering product teams to classify defense and dual-use products (preferably SaaS or other cloud products ), software, and technologies according to import and export control requirements.
  • Prior experience conducting KYC or third-party due diligence, proven research and analytical skills, detail-oriented and enjoys working under a high degree of independence in a fast-paced setting.
  • Understanding of overlap and distinctions between U.S. trade controls and U.S. Department of Defense CUI controls, and ability to assist with terms of use compliance for U.S. government-furnished CUI.
  • Demonstrated track record of innovative process development and creation of simple solutions to meet corporate compliance program goals.
  • Proficiency in DECCS, SNAP-R, ACE, and third-party compliance screening software.
  • What We Require

  • 3+ years of experience working on a risk or compliance team.
  • This position requires eligibility to obtain authorization under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Non-US Persons, as defined in the ITAR and EAR, may not be eligible to obtain authorization.
  • Eligibility to access all manner of International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), Export Administration Regulation (EAR), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) materials.
  • Expert knowledge and experience drafting and applying for export and import authorizations.
  • Salary

    The estimated salary range for this position is estimated to be $100,000 - $150,000/year. Total compensation for this position may also include Restricted Stock units, sign-on bonus and other potential future incentives. Further note that total compensation for this position will be determined by each individual’s relevant qualifications, work experience, skills, and other factors. This estimate excludes the value of any potential sign-on bonus; the value of any benefits offered; and the potential future value of any long-term incentives.
