The Ad Formats team mission is to drive advertiser outcomes with creative and performant ads that inspire Pinners to take action.
Ad Formats sits at the nexus of Advertiser and Pinner needs and outcomes. A multidisciplinary organization composed of Android, iOS, Web, and Backend engineers, the organization drives revenue for the company via developing new Ad Formats, improving the performance of existing Ad Formats, as well as creating new opportunities to increase ads supply and introduce new sources of ads demand.
As an Engineering Manager for the team, you will help build the team, set and deliver on a vision/roadmap through helping mentor and guide the professional/technical development of team members.
What you’ll do:
- Build and lead a team of mobile and backend engineer
- The team will initially consist of 4 engineers reporting to you with potential to grow further.
- In this role, you will do roadmap planning twice a year (Pinterest plans on a 6-month basis), run 2-week sprints, and report progress to stakeholders on a monthly basis.
- Provide a vision to the team, drive technical excellence, and partner with key stakeholders to prioritize the team's roadmap. The team partners with peer teams in the infra org and cross-functional product teams (homefeed, search etc) to identify developer enabling capabilities the team can deliver to allow product teams to build with ease. This EM should have enough of a technical base to understand technical problems and solutions to address these problems.
- Partner closely with our customers on the Ads Quality and Ads Product teams to inform our strategy, and accelerate launches that deliver significant gains in revenue, CTR, CPAs, etc.
- Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of the members of the team. This includes hiring top talent and providing feedback to existing team members to accelerate their growth. Tactically this EM is expected to run weekly 1:1s with their team and participate in company-wide review processes like mid and year-end reviews.
What we’re looking for:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong preference for candidates with mobile engineering experience
- Track record of developing high quality software in an automated build and deployment environment
- Experience leading a team of engineers through a significant feature or product launch in collaboration with Product and Design
- Previous experience working closely with Product Management and Design cross-functional partners, and an ability to play part of those roles in guiding the priorities and roadmap of the product owned by the team, on top of the usual EM responsibilities.

- We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
- This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times per month and therefore needs to be in a commutable distance from the Toronto office (85 Richmond St. W).
