The Senior Manager, Media and Creator Relations will help tell Pinterest’s consumer, tech, product, and business stories through traditional media and new channels. This person will support media relations efforts by managing and cultivating key relationships with broadcast, print and online media, as well as help develop new relationships with non-traditional media, including community creators, newsletters, podcasters and influencers. 

This person will build a center of excellence within the Comms Team focused on media and influencer relations with broadcast news bookers/producers, reporters and editors, and new channels and leverage these relationships for Pinterest consumer, product and business news and launches. As a center of excellence, this person will provide strategic counsel to other members of the Comms Team and cross-functional stakeholders on media and creator/influencer relations, and help identify what relationships to tap for various launches and announcements. This person must be a competent project manager and will need to be able to oversee cross-functional projects as they will also project manage launch moments for the company. This person will manage and develop junior staff, including how to effectively do media and creator/influencer relations. 

What you’ll do:

  • Support and lead storytelling with the media on Pinterest’s consumer, tech, product and business stories.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on developing compelling storylines, pitch to top-tier media outlets, podcasts and social creators and influencers. 
  • Manage and build relationships with traditional and nontraditional media channels across a variety of topics of importance to Pinterest.
  • Work cross functionally with the Communications Team and other internal groups (Sales, Consumer Marketing, Product Business Marketing) to launch product features, business news and other announcements.
  • Regularly meet and educate reporters and creators/influencers on Pinterest’s value and new product features and bring information and learnings back from these meetings to the broader Comms Team. 
  • Project manage Pinterest announcements and launches and in some cases act as a company spokesperson
  • Build a strong rolodex of traditional and non-traditional media for Pinterest.
  • Mentor junior staff and coach them on building and managing media and creator relationships 

What we’re looking for:

  • Solid understanding of what makes a good story and how to effectively identify, pitch and shape consumer, business and product stories in a compelling way.
  • Strong relationships with reporters, podcasters and creator/influencers interested in tech, consumer media, business.
  • A keen understanding of media strategy and experience pitching stories to reporters.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends in the media landscape and how new channels are changing to ways that people consume information, especially Gen Z.
  • Ability to work well cross functionally and coordinate across communications, marketing, brand partnerships and sales. 
  • Project manage experience and skills and the ability to lead projects with multiple stakeholders and short deadlines.
  • Strong ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • 10+ years experience in communications, public relations, journalism or business. 
  • Experience mentoring and managing junior staff.

In-Office Requirement Statement: 

  • We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
  • This role can be remote but our team members try to be in the office for in-person collaboration twice a week if you are within commuting distance to a Pinterest Office (this is not required). 
  • 1-2 times every 6 months you can expect to have to meet in-person for on-sites and team meetings.

Final salary is based on a number of factors including location, travel, relevant prior experience, or particular skills and expertise.
