The Role 

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cost Accounting Manager to join our Finance team at Pure Storage's headquarters in Santa Clara, CA. The Cost Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of cost accounting activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company policies. This role reports to the Director of Accounting and offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and fast-growing technology company.

What You’ll Do

  • Cost Analysis and Reporting: Manage the cost accounting function including standard costing setting, variance analysis, and cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis. Provide insightful analysis of cost drivers and variances to budget and forecast.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the inventory accounting process, ensuring accurate valuation of inventory, proper reserve calculations, and compliance with company policies and GAAP.
  • Month-end Close: Lead the month-end and year-end close processes related to cost accounting. Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements related to inventory and cost of goods sold.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Support: Partner with FP&A teams to provide cost-related insights and analysis for budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making purposes.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve cost accounting processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls. Implement best practices in cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and other departments to ensure alignment on cost-related matters and provide financial guidance as needed.
  • Audit and Compliance: Support internal and external audits related to inventory and cost accounting. Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and other regulatory standards.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or technology company.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting principles, and inventory valuation methodologies.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, etc.) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence decision-making.

 

We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara, CA office in compliance with Pure’s policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.

 

The annual base salary range is: $119,000 – $179,000. 

Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations. 

This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
