The mission of Technical Art at Riot is to establish and improve the systems, tools, assets, and workflows that unleash the creativity of our artists, and enable the production of exciting content for our players. Technical Artists interface with developers across multiple disciplines, spanning across Art, Design, Production, and Engineering, to develop a strong vision for our pipelines that deliver towards our product goals. They also serve as mentors for artists and engineers, guiding their understanding of what the needs of art is, and what is possible through forward looking pipeline development.

As a Tools and Pipeline Tech Artist on the Hextech Artist Tools team, you will be joining a team that works on and maintains the core pipeline used by League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and League Studio initiatives. You will work with multiple Art disciplines to define standards and pipelines for how we create digital content. You will use your technical skills to partner with Engineers, Artists and other Tech Artists to build tools and workflows that bring new features and optimize existing processes.  You will work specifically with the Hextech Artist Tools team to help build art content pipelines that will feed into projects using Unreal Engine.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with artists and engineers to identify and execute on opportunities to evolve content creation pipelines within League Studio
  • Partner with game teams to understand how current art pipeline workflows can work with Unreal Engine
  • Directly create and work on tools for artists and developers.
  • Be an active communicator and collaborator with all stakeholders
  • Write, maintain, and actively update documentation for tools, pipelines and studio best practices
  • Build and help maintain a culture of trust and respect within Tech Art

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of game industry technical art experience creating tools and supporting art content pipelines for game development
  • Have worked on and created art content creation tools for at least two titles for PC or Console
  • Experience developing art content creation tools and scripts using Python
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5
  • Expertise with digital content creation tools (Maya, Houdini, Substance, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of modern game art pipeline and asset creation
  • Comfortable working in an exciting but ambiguous space
  • Strong communication skills, both 1 on 1 with developers, and in a group setting.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable experience supporting a specific game art pipeline (Animation, Rigging, VFX, etc..)
  • Familiarity with Lua, C++, and PyQT
  • Familiarity other industry standard engines (Unity, Lumberyard, etc)
