Riot Esports finds itself in need of new production & operations workflows that better prepare for our multi-esport future.  From content ideation to end-user distribution and every step in between it is imperative that Riot land this first step towards becoming a unified global media production entity. 

The Manager of the TOC, Technical Operations Centre (internally known as Technical Ops III) is an integral member of the RBC leadership team and live-event production team working in Riot’s newly built Seattle Remote Broadcast Center (RBC), Powered by AWS.

The function of TOC is to ensure signal quality and routing, coordinating high-level media asset activities and delivering finished programming to distribution partners and channels as a part of Riots live event production workflow.

In partnership with the Dublin RBC, this role will drive accountability for overseeing a diverse array of TOC operations, such as team leadership, training and development, operations oversight, and project management.This person will lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of the TOC operations for SEA RBC, ensuring seamless integration of technology, talent, and content. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for all remote broadcasts through the RBC, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including content creators, technical staff, and external partners, to deliver engaging and high-quality broadcasts.
  • Establish and document best practices for remote broadcasting, focusing on efficiency, quality, and innovation, and ensure that all team members are trained and adhere to these standards.
  • Support the development and creation of training modules for our unique workforce staffing solution, operating manuals and curating reference materials to develop and support the model. 
  • Contribute towards the development of innovative approaches and services (for our internal customers) that shape the department and have Riot wide impact
  • Conduct post-event analysis by collecting and analyzing relevant data related to highly complex and diverse problems that require an ability to evaluate multiple variables, identifying key insights, and presenting comprehensive reports to facilitate informed decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review the quarterly schedule of events in order to efficiently organize and assign the work via the staffing SDM (Service Delivery Manager)
  • Partner  with the 3rd party vendor SDM to advise on technical skillsets needed for production vendor to source and staff for Riot’s tech ops needs
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement and stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies in broadcasting, applying this knowledge to enhance operational efficiency and audience engagement.
  • Using all of the tools at hand, lead departmental efforts related to communications with other operating areas - production, engineering, media asset management etc

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience managing a Broadcast Transmission, Technical Operations Center or Broadcast Master Control environment involving live production
  • 8+ years of broadcast experience, but can be substituted with an equal number of years’ experience working with video signal transmission and processing vendors
  • Strong experience in project management, with a track record of delivering complex broadcast projects on time and within budget, using tools like Asana, Trello, or equivalent
  • In-depth knowledge of broadcast technology and remote production workflows, including video streaming, audio mixing, and live production software.
  • Experience in AWS workflow management and design 
  • Understanding of media management platforms and workflows, including metadata logging, and media storage technology and operations
  • An understanding of the conversion of baseband video to compressed video formats to facilitate archiving and delivery across a variety of networks and platforms

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience launching a TOC, master control or production center
  • Experience in live sports production operations environment 
  • Ability to develop and nurture effective partnerships across the organization by communicating proactively and incorporating other viewpoints in the approach to the work
  • Experience in vendor management around staffing
  • Experience operating in a global work environment
