Who we are:
Want to make an impact? Join our pack and come work (and play!) with us.
We believe everyone deserves the unconditional love of a pet—and at Rover, our mission is to make it easier to experience that love. Founded in 2011, the Rover app and website connect dog and cat parents with loving pet sitters and dog walkers in neighborhoods across the US, Canada, and Europe. We empower our community of trusted pet sitters and dog walkers to run their own pet care businesses on Rover with the tools and security of a global company to back them.
Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, we work closely with our teams in Barcelona, San Antonio, Spokane, and remote locations. We’ve got a reputation for being a great place to work, having been named among the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Seattle Business Magazine and Washington’s Best Workplaces in the Puget Sound Business Journal. We're an agile, fast-growing company, and our leadership comes from some of the world's most respected tech companies.
At Rover, our furry coworkers are just as important as our human ones—and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Along with making the joys of pet parenthood more accessible, we’re committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming community of pet people—and that starts with our employees.
About the Developer Experience Team:
The Developer Experience team is chartered with ensuring Rover developers have the tools, processes, and support they need to work effectively, stay focused, and find fulfillment in their contributions. We work to enhance developer productivity and satisfaction by reducing friction in the development lifecycle and ensuring the company's engineering organization can scale effectively. Our strategy is rooted in a developer-centric approach, addressing the real challenges developers encounter daily. We believe that by focusing on their experience, we can drive organization-wide productivity more effectively than by narrowly targeting individual productivity metrics alone. Our goal isn’t simply to increase output; it’s to create an environment where developers are empowered to do their best work and feel fulfilled and supported in their growth. The Developer Experience team is part of the Platform Engineering Division and as such, we work broadly across the engineering department serving many partners and requiring exceptional partner communication and relationship-building skills.
Your first year at Rover:
We know that stepping in right away as a manager on a new team can be challenging, especially when it is a team with a technical/platform mission. That’s why we give you the opportunity to spend your first several weeks at Rover as an individual contributor on the team (and maybe others!). This process allows you to build up domain knowledge and gives valuable perspective on what it is like to be an engineer at Rover - critical to leading the Developer Experience Team.
Your first day – You will set up your development environment and ship a code change.
Your first week – You will meet your team and get familiar with the projects and people in the Developer Experience world.
Your first month – You will operate as a team contributor, learning about Rover and what it is like to be an engineer here.
Your first three months – You will begin to lead the Developer Experience team, take ownership of its sprint process, lead current team members, and hire new team members.
You first six months - You will help engineers further develop career plans and lead the Developer Experience program.
Your first year – You will form an opinion on the Developer Experience program and charter, and plan the investments for the coming year.
