HEAD OF SCHOOL

The Head of School will build, train and lead a highly qualified team of guides and staff. Administratively, the Head of School will supervise the effective development of the school’s academic model, increase enrollment and retention, manage finances, and provide input to SpaceX’s executive team on these initiatives. The primary responsibility of the Head of School is being the instructional leader on campus.

The ideal candidate will obtain a deep understanding of how to build strong student and parent culture, navigate ambiguous school contexts, upskill teachers from a variety of backgrounds and skill levels, manage one’s own personal effectiveness, understand effective school change management processes, build curriculum, create and implement novel academic programs, and analyze student and school qualitative and quantitative data. This candidate will also have demonstrated a consistent exceptional record of results.

This role requires being on campus every day. The Head of School will also be an asset to the executive team and other members of school leadership as a resource and strategic visionary, with direct influence and direction of the school’s program. The Head of School is a full-time employee of SpaceX, working year-round with hours including evenings, some weekends, and throughout the calendar year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coach and manage Guides on curriculum/project development, relationship building with students, and intervention when necessary
  • Hire Guides and other staff members
  • Build trust and confidence with Ad Astra families through regular communication
  • Build a strong full-school culture
  • Achieve a high record of quantitative and qualitative results
  • Oversee several day-to-day operations
  • Implement innovative academic and extracurricular programming
  • Educate prospective families on our academic model
  • Attend to the intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth of each child and partner with faculty and each child’s caretakers in these efforts
  • Actively manage the school educational program, and operate finances, facilities, and other administrative duties
  • Manage third party providers for additional programming

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years of professional experience in PreK-12 education

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience leading schools or large youth academic programs
  • Montessori, project-based and/or experiential learning experience
  • Loves to experiment, evaluate, and improve on everything they do
  • Proven excellence in written and oral communication skills, and comfortable using and learning a variety of technology tools
  • Loves to build a larger community among families and students
  • Deep respect for all children
