What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a Content Designer (product content strategist, UX writer, or whatever name you go by!) to join our team. The Content Design team makes sure customers always have the information they need, from the product, to the help center, to transactional emails, to our chatbot. You’ll be accountable for writing simple, clear, concise UI copy that shapes the customer experience.
This is the perfect role for someone who’s interested in crafting end-to-end user experiences and is an expert at designing with words—how a screen fits into the larger ecosystem matters just as much as what the words on them say.
Content Designers work in lockstep with designers, researchers, and product managers and have a strong voice in the product development process. You’re not only a terrific writer, but a sought-after collaborator and strategic thinker. As a strong communicator who’s thoughtful about how you share the reasoning behind your work, you’ll have the opportunity to provide strategic direction on high-priority projects and influence decisions that improve the overall user experience.
What you’ll be working on
- Partner with design and product to create content that guides people through user flows (navigation, menus, buttons, labels, tips, errors, notifications, etc.)
- Define the content strategy, guidance patterns, information architecture, and terminology for a given product or feature
- Write simple, direct, and human copy with an eye toward inclusivity, accessibility, and globalization
- Decide which content and UX components will work best to meet user needs
- Evaluate and test different content options, articulate the rationale for your decisions
- Provide thoughtful feedback on design concepts and brainstorm solutions that balance business goals and user needs
- Contribute to our style guidelines and the design system
- Pitch ideas, build consensus among stakeholders, and influence strategy
- Work with product and engineering to understand technical capabilities and constraints
- Look at a customer problem with empathy, envision a world different than the status quo, and design a path for how to get there
- Tirelessly pursue data and research to inform, guide, and measure your work
- Plan, run, and participate in user research and present findings to your team
- Share your work early and often with teammates and provide feedback on their work
We’d love to hear from people with
- 4+ years as a Content Designer or UX writer, ideally with experience working on enterprise, business collaboration, or SaaS tools
- Strong writing and editing skills, in particular making text shorter, friendlier, and easier to understand with specific reasoning behind each choice
- Solid understanding of content design best practices, information architecture, and design systems
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira and Figma
- Experience working with design, product, research, marketing, legal, and engineering teams
- A systems mindset that considers not just copy, but the end-to-end user experience
- Experience with seeking metrics to inform work and having a voice in product strategy
- Comfortable with ambiguity, problem-solving, managing multiple projects, and prioritization
- A knack for giving and receiving feedback with clarity and empathy
- Not afraid to ask questions, poke holes, and pursue ideas
- Excellent communication skills with people at all levels across different time zones
- Zeal for collaboration—writing is a team sport!
Sample of relevant work required. It should illustrate your experience creating UX content, influencing product strategy, and solving user problems with words.
SurveyMonkey believes in-person collaboration is valuable for building relationships, fostering community, and enhancing our speed and execution in problem-solving and decision-making. As such, you will be required to work from a SurveyMonkey office up to 1 day per week.
