Manager, Technical Accounting

The Manager of Technical Accounting will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our financial reporting. This position will be responsible for addressing complex accounting issues, providing technical guidance, and supporting the overall accounting function. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in technical accounting, a strong understanding of US GAAP, and the ability to effectively communicate complex accounting matters to various stakeholders.

This role will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Accounting and Reporting and is based in Los Angeles, CA

What you’ll do:

  • Technical Accounting Leadership: Lead the technical accounting function by researching, interpreting, and implementing new accounting standards and regulations. Provide guidance on complex accounting issues and transactions.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure the accuracy and compliance of financial statements and disclosures.
  • Policy Development: Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance with US GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Advisory Role: Act as a key advisor to the finance team and other departments on technical accounting matters. Provide training and support to ensure understanding and proper application of accounting standards.
  • Internal Controls: Strengthen and enhance internal controls over financial reporting. Collaborate with external auditors to ensure robust control environments.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate technical accounting matters to senior management, auditors, and other stakeholders. Prepare technical accounting memos and documentation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends and developments in accounting standards. Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains.

What you’ll need:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in technical accounting, preferably with a mix of public accounting (Big 4 experience strongly preferred) and industry experience.
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of US GAAP, SEC regulations, and financial reporting requirements. Experience with complex accounting issues such as revenue recognition, leases, and stock-based compensation.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to interpret and apply accounting standards to real-world situations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Net Suite) and financial reporting tools.
