The Verge is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what’s now, what’s next, and what’s possible.
As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Verge is seeking an Editorial Director to lead our audio and video teams and to oversee our flagship podcasts, The Vergecast and Decoder with Nilay Patel. This person will directly manage all aspects of day-to-day audio and video production for existing shows and work to pilot, develop, and produce future series. They should be a creative and ambitious leader who can make our programming sharper and better; and who can navigate a rapidly changing environment as distribution platforms, creative tools, and business models evolve. In this role, you will:

- Grow our audio and video audiences through great, differentiated programming and smart marketing and distribution.
- Shape the creative direction of our shows, bringing deep subject matter expertise in technology and business.
- Directly manage producers, audio engineers, video producers, and audio freelancers as needed for all shows.
- Establish and execute strong pre- and post-production workflows and stakeholder communication.
- Be able to step in on day-to-day production as needed: generating and vetting episode ideas, booking diverse guests, and leading questions and scripting.
- Work closely with The Verge’s network development team on sponsorship RFPs; manage all production and deliverables for sponsored episodes.
- Develop and lead expansion into new projects, including live shows, special events, and limited-run series.
- Work closely with Verge leadership to grow and transition the team to the needs of our podcasting business.
- Work closely with Verge journalists, show hosts, and talent and help them develop their on-air skills.
