Retail Sales Associate (Part-Time) Wayfair
Location: Wilmette, IL
The pay for this position is $17/hr however, base pay offered may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Brief Overview of Position
As a Retail Sales/Engagement Associate, you'll play a vital role in creating an inviting and inspiring experience for every Wayfair customer. You will actively approach and support customers throughout their journey, from answering product inquiries and processing orders or returns to resolving issues with empathy and efficiency. With a passion for sales and customer experience, this person will excel at actively boosting sales, building personalized connections, and fostering customer loyalty. The ideal candidate thrives in a heavily proactive sales environment, collaborating with leadership to implement continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring every interaction reflects Wayfair's commitment to retail excellence.
What Does an Engagement Associate Do?
- Engage and Connect with Customers: Build meaningful relationships by asking thoughtful questions to understand customers' needs and style, guiding them toward the best purchase options for their homes.
- Demonstrates Reliability: Attendance and commitment to being present and on time for your full shift each day is crucial. This helps ensure we're ready and available to help our customers when they need us most. For unexpected events or issues, we require our associates to be proactive in their communications and planning whenever possible.
- Always Be Selling (ABS): You will actively see each customer as a new opportunity to build rapport while making new sales, big and small. Educate customers on purchasing options, including our POS systems, online platforms, the Wayfair app, or quotes, ensuring a seamless buying experience.
- Provide Product Expertise: Leverage your growing knowledge of Wayfair's products and services to provide tailored recommendations both in-store and online through our endless aisle and store applications.
- Support Operational Excellence: Assist with store processes such as carry-outs, in-store pickups, cancellations, cart retrieval, product processing, and maintaining a clean, organized environment.
- Adapt to a Fast-Paced Environment: Thrive in a dynamic setting with rapid changes in products, promotions, and operations while maintaining a high level of energy and focus.
- Collaborate Effectively: Contribute to team success by participating in floor sets, replenishment, backfill substitutions, and sharing innovative ideas to enhance operations.
- Deliver Exceptional Service: Commit to providing memorable customer experiences through personalized solutions and proactive support, making Wayfair a preferred shopping destination.
What are the Job Requirements?
- Selling & Service Experience: 1+ year of sales or customer service experience in a retail or customer-facing environment (interior design or specialty sales experience is a plus).
- Open Availability: You will be required to work a flexible schedule that in many cases may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to effectively learn and navigate necessary software and hardware. Proficiency in operating & navigating mobile applications, handheld tablets, inventory devices and POS systems.
- Core Competencies: Strong sales acumen paired with exceptional organizational, self-motivation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Time Management & Multitasking: Capable of managing multiple conversations or customers simultaneously while demonstrating excellent time management, multitasking, and organizational skills with a strong focus on detail and accuracy to ensure an outstanding customer experience.

- Frequent movement including standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs
- Frequent repetitive motions and coordination
