The Surf Ranch Hospitality Server team is responsible for delivering an exceptional guest experience by serving meals and refreshments throughout the day. Under the direct supervision of the Food & Beverage Manager and Supervisor, servers perform a range of duties both in guest-facing and behind-the-scenes capacities. These include serving food, clearing dishes, and engaging with guests. Additionally, servers work closely with the Cooks and Sous Chef to ensure food quality, communicate guest preferences, and address dietary restrictions or allergies.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Adhere to all departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure the timely delivery of all food and beverage needs at Surf Ranch
  • Serve food & drinks and remove dishes and glassware after use
  • Help wash dishes and glassware after mealtimes
  • Polish glassware and silverware after each meal service
  • Ensure all tableware offered to guests are clean, polished and properly cared for
  • Know guests by name
  • Interact with guests in a professional and friendly manner
  • Track any dietary requirements of guests
  • Work with Sous Chef, Cooks, Bartender and Hosts to anticipate timing of meals and guests’ wants and needs
  • Participate in line up or pre-shift during each shift 
  • Know in detail all Surf Ranch menus; breakfast, snack, beverage and cocktail
  • Know in detail the components of daily lunch, dinner and dessert specials
  • Understand where the meats, local vegetables and other ingredients come from and what makes them special
  • Write daily lunch and dinner specials on A-frame chalk sign
  • Stock hospitality crate to best ensure preparedness for each shift
  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of  guests by following proper food handlers guidelines
  • Maintain a current food handlers and RBS certification card
  • Maintain cleanliness and general upkeep of Surf Ranch facilities
  • Follow all California ABC liquor regulations and guidelines
  • Manage alcohol consumption of each guest to ensure site safety and ABC laws 
  • Complete daily side work and checklists
  • Understand basic wine knowledge and pouring techniques 
  • Ensure guests have everything they need post surf session
  • Ensure all kitchen areas are clean, free of clutter, and presentable to guests before, during, and after each day
  • Work well with Bartenders, Culinary Staff and Hosts
  • Complete requests tasked by F&B Supervisor 
  • Communicate with Host to provide guests with the best experience possible
  • Keep a clean, presentable and professional appearance
  • Read run of show (ROS) emails daily 
  • Read end of shift reports daily
  • Check and read email daily regarding all surf ranch operations
  • Communicate within the hospitality department via google chat threads 
  • Additional duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in a food and beverage program
  • Experience in the service or hospitality industry
  • Ability to interact and cater to guests ranging from no previous surf experience to expert level surfing ability
  • Experience in “5-star” resort services environment
  • Food Handler card preferred

Working Conditions / Physical requirements (if applicable) 

  • Physically able to wipe down table tops, chairs, and booths; able to pick up debris from floor; able to carry 25 or more pounds; able to push vacuum or mop
  • Physically able to stand and move during the length of shift; able to bend and kneel through shift.
  • Ability to work outdoors, in all weather conditions
