You will be part of a team building state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions for the Zoox autonomous driving Perception stack. As a member of the Perception team, you will be part of the “eyes and ears” of the Zoox autonomous driving stack, deploying state-of-the-art AI solutions to ensure safe and effective driving.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Scientist to join our Perception Verification & Validation team. The team is responsible for verifying and validation the Perception stack of our Autonomous Driving system. In this role, you will develop data analyses and models to evaluate and improve the quality and efficiency of Zoox's Perception Validation process. You'll work closely with perception engineers, metrics engineers and machine learning engineers to define key performance metrics, build validation pipelines, and ensure our AI-driven Perception stack operates safely and effectively in real world conditions. In this role, you will:

  • Use multi-modal data from across the company to develop models and strategies that improve the speed and quality of our perception validation process
  • Analyze large-scale data from perception metric results to introspect the perception stacking, understanding trends and key failure modes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally  with perception engineers, metrics engineers, and machine learning engineers, including presenting results and insights to leadership.
  • Work with infrastructure teams to deploy models that operate on TBs of data, including monitor performance over time
  • Support development of new metrics and statistical validation approaches

    • Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in a data science or related field
  • Experience with production Machine Learning pipelines, including dataset creation, training frameworks, model validation, and monitoring
  • Proficient with data query languages (SQL or Spark/scala) and Python, data science and machine learning frameworks
  • Proficient in exploratory data analysis (EDA) and data visualization

    • Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience in autonomous driving, perception systems, or safety-critical computer vision applications
  • Experience using LLMs or agent-based models to meaningfully improve business objectives while maintaining trustworthy and quality results
  • Strong background in statistical modeling and analysis
    • Compensation
    There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary will range from $$192,000-$$260,000. A sign-on bonus may be part of a compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
