The Zoox Strength and Durability attribute team focuses on solving the unique challenge of delivering reliable service in an ever-expanding operational area, embracing the diversity of our riders, and rising to meet the demands of real-world road and driving experiences.

As a CAE engineer for Strength and Durability, your role will be to support design engineers in ensuring their systems will operate safely and reliably throughout the vehicle's life. You will use the most appropriate methods, from hand calculations and FE analysis, to support vehicle development. In fast-paced program cycles, you will support attribute, design, and test engineers to develop practicable structural design solutions meeting performance requirements. In this role, you will:

  • Lead the virtual vehicle structure development, generate concise reporting, and execute design countermeasures in close collaboration with project and engineering teams
  • Support and lead the off-shore service supplier teams, managing workload and technical oversight of work 
  • Support root cause analysis of vehicle, system, or component issues
  • Lead and manage Operational Strength model build with Zoox CAE and offshore teams
  • Ensure virtual tools, methodologies, and correlations are in place to continuously improve the virtual predictive quality of durability and fatigue simulations
  • Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field and 8+ years of experience
  • Expert knowledge of implicit and nonlinear analysis 
  • Solid understanding of engineering through first principles and hand calculations
  • Experience in test development and model correlation
  • Expert knowledge of  BETA CAE ANSA/META, OPTISTRUCT, and Abaqus and knowledge of optimization tools
  • Bonus Qualifications

  • Background in Vehicle CAE Performance Development
  • CAE or Engineering team leadership experience
  • Compensation

    There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $160,000 to $220,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
