The Team & Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineering Manager to drive our next generation Configure, Price and Quote [CPQ] platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background with engineering and product development expertise in cloud-native architectures, UI/UX frameworks, database scaling, and domain knowledge in CPQ, billing, subscription management, consumption based business processing, and e-commerce experiences. This role requires someone who has successfully enabled large-scale product development and led engineering teams in creating next-generation architecture. Additionally, experience with rules-driven and BPM frameworks, API-led design, business API context and front-end technologies is essential. A deep understanding of the technology components necessary to build a scalable architecture for a Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ) application is also required.

What you’ll do

  • Enable large-scale product development by setting engineering direction, fostering innovation, and ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Lead and manage engineering teams to design, develop, and deploy cutting-edge technology solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and domain expertise in CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote), billing, subscriptions, consumption, and e-commerce to guide product development and architecture decisions.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Drive the development of scalable and resilient cloud-native architectures to support Zuora’s product offerings.
  • Oversee database scaling strategies to ensure high performance and reliability for large-scale applications.
  • Collaborate with UI/UX engineering teams to implement frameworks that enhance user experience and interface design.
  • Implement and integrate rules-driven and BPM (Business Process Management) frameworks to build an application architecture that’s business friendly and extensible.
  • Lead API-led design initiatives and ensure effective integration of business APIs to support diverse business contexts.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Marketing, and Customer Success, to deliver high-quality solutions that meet market demands.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the engineering team.
  • Thorough understanding of the technology components necessary for building a scalable CPQ application, including

Backend Technologies:

  • Microservices architecture for modular, flexible, and scalable development.
  • RESTful APIs and GraphQL for efficient communication and data exchange.
  • Cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for robust infrastructure and scalability.
  • Containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for efficient deployment and management.
  • High-performance databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra) for reliable data storage and retrieval.
  • In-memory data stores (e.g., Redis, Memcached) for fast data access and caching.
  • DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD) for automated testing, integration, and deployment.
  • Security frameworks and tools (e.g., OAuth, JWT, SSL/TLS) for ensuring data privacy and protection.

Frontend Technologies:

  • Modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React) for building responsive and dynamic user interfaces.
  • HTML5 and CSS3 for structuring and styling web applications.
  • State management libraries (e.g., Redux) for managing application state.
  • Front-end build tools (e.g., Webpack, Babel) for optimizing and compiling front-end assets.
  • UI component libraries (e.g., Material-UI) for consistent and reusable UI components.

 

Your experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, with a focus on cloud-native architectures and large-scale product development.
  • Proven experience in database scaling and optimization techniques for high-traffic applications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions.
  • Passion for innovation and a deep understanding of the technology landscape.
  • Strong knowledge of UI/UX frameworks and best practices.
  • Demonstrated domain expertise in CPQ, billing, subscriptions, usage, and e-commerce.
  • Track record of leading engineering teams to create next-generation architecture and delivering successful large-scale projects.
  • In-depth experience with rules-driven frameworks and BPM frameworks.
  • Expertise in API-led design and developing business APIs.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, cloud platforms, containerization technologies, high-performance databases, in-memory data stores, DevOps tools, and security frameworks.
  • Proficiency with front-end technologies, including modern JavaScript frameworks, HTML5, CSS3, state management libraries, front-end build tools, and UI component libraries.

 

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in the subscription economy or related industries.
  • Familiarity with competitive CPQ platforms .
  • Knowledge of CPQ industry trends and insight about next generation monetization concepts.
