Position Summary:
Sonic’s Engineering Project Manager makes sure all internal / external engineer questions are answered and that engineering is being delivered on time.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
The Engineering Project Manager is a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt position.
Location:
Position can be done fully remote. Seeking candidates within SF Bay Area, Southern California, Dallas TX areas.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
OSP Project Engineers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Being a Brand Ambassador with authorizing Utilities to ensure engineering is up to current standards.
- Ongoing training of OSP Project Engineers, Application Processors, internal / external Engineering staff.
- Able to analyze applications to see where errors occur to apply for permits in a timely manner.
- Answer field engineering questions as needed to prevent a construction stoppage.
- Prepares engineering design by collecting and studying reports, maps, and drawings.
- Confirms adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, verifying calculations and placements.
- Fulfills project requirements by training and guiding operators.
- Maintains operations by enforcing project and operational policies and procedures.
- Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Monitoring JIRA for accuracies, training team to be accurate & pulling monthly tracking reports for pole delivered vs pole expected.
- Communicate with Construction Project Managers & fellow Engineering Project Managers to make sure projects are prioritized in the correct order.
- Applications submitted to permitting agencies in a timely manner that will prevent permits from expiring before construction.
- Communicating Sonic needs & expectations with outside engineering partners in a professional manner.
- Holding OSP Project Engineers accountable when they fall behind. Being able to jump in and assist until back on track, then evaluate the situation to put plans in place to prevent in the future.
- Work with internal Pole Engineering team to get as much network engineered as possible.
- Periodically monitor applications received to make sure the engineer is delivering the best quality product.
- Perform bi-weekly reviews off your own OSP Project Engineers reviews to engineering companies to make sure that they are requesting correct information.
- Communicating with the engineers of record when repetitive issues are taking place to prevent in future applications.
- Perform annual employee reviews.
- Work with GIS & external Engineering Company to validate & verify fiber connectivity paths.
- Ability to engineer utility poles as necessary to complete permit packages
Experience Requirements:
- General Order 95 and/or NESC (National Electrical Safety Code)
- EXCEL
- Spida Loading program (preferred)
- Adobe Acrobat Pro
- O’Calc Pro (required)
- Utility Pole Design Experience
- Management Experience a plus

Compensation Range: $70-$76k annually, these rates are based off of CA market. Out of state hires will differ.
